How do I turn off Predictive Text?

My Nokia 3310 is set to use the Predictive Text function by default. I find this annoying and would like to turn it off, but I can't find the function in the options.

How can I turn the Predictive Text function off?
Andrew L., August 2003

I started a text like you said. I went down to the options. There is no dictionary.

Thank you very much for this advice about turning off predictive text on my old style Nokia 3310, which seemed to become sentient and switch itself into this mode. Good call guys :-)

THE FOLLOWING METHOD WORKED TO TURN OF PREDICTIVE TEXTING ON MY NOKIA 3330,, MANY THANKS TO WHOEVER POSTED IT-
in the "Write messages" screen, press "#" several times and watch the symbol in the top right change. If the pencil has 'speed lines' behind it, then predictive text is enabled. If there isn't the lines behind the pencil, then predictive text is turned off.
There are several modes of text entry:
1) Predictive Capitalised First Letter (Lines > Pencil > Abc)
2) Predictive Capitalised (Lines > Pencil > ABC)
3) Predictive Lowercase (Lines > Pencil > abc)
4) Non-Predictive Capitalised First Letter (Pencil > Abc)
5) Non-Predictive Lowercase (Pencil > abc)
6) Non-Predictive Capitalised (Pencil > ABC)

With Nokia N73 - to turn off the option of "Predictive text"

a) Commence writing a text message
b) Scroll down from recipient address box to message area
c) Press the lower left button (having a symbol of a pencil)
d) Select "Predictive text off"

Thanks, guys...you are so much more helpful than the manual (which, admittedly I could only find in Zulu!). To turn off predictive text on Nokia 3310, start a message, go to Options, Dictionary, and turn Dictionary OFF. When you go back to writing your message, you'll see that the letters at the top left of the screen are no longer underlined. Voila!!

Thanks for the solution. Now I can text sensibly

George, September 2009
Thanks for info, it works on INQ1 phone from 3.
The predictive text was driving me nuts,

Trevor, March 2009
Thanks too, it had driven my nuts--how could you get it to say 'am' not 'an' or 'food' not 'good' etc. But even if you have it off, it will come on again if you hold the hash key down for longer than it likes, and it will not go back until you do dictionary. I will not get this phone again!
Regards

Ali Ayliffe, November 2008
For 3310, the "dictionary off" option works. The hash key only changes caps on/off

Shame it took nearly 5 years for someone to come up with this, but I'm glad they did!!

To turn off Nokia permanently:
Start a text, go into options and scroll to dictionary, select and then scroll to 'dictionary off'

mj

Thank you MJ. Fixed my problem.

nzcalling@gmail.com, March 2008
If your predictive is off, start typing a text, go to the dictionary (in options), turn it OFF the turn it ON again. Worked for me - I spent 2 days typing out texts letter by letter...nearly drove me MAD!!

Good luck all

Kwesi, November 2007
if anyone from nokia is reading this can they please resolve the predictive text problem please

paul, September 2007
no one came up with a correct procedure for removing predictive text from a nokia 3310

paul, September 2007
On most Nokia phones- before you start typing your message you will see at top of screen the letters abc or ABC -this means you will type in capitals or small letters-and they will be underlined if on predictive-so if you then press # key the underline should disappear which should allow you to type normal letters

If you have a series 60 phone this might be the answer to your
problems:

Thank You for this, I had somehow managed to turn Predictive Text off and had no idea how to turn it back on! At the same time NOW I KNOW how to input numbers also!
So Thank you again MJ.

6) Non-Predictive Capitalised (Pencil > ABC)

You can scroll through these modes using the hash key (#) as described before. The "#" key is the bottom right key on your mobile phone's keypad.

Hope this helps!
