Jo - The answer to your query, could be, remove the back plate (5 or 6 screws - Flat Head) and check the central (golden) nut on the drum. Ours was loose tonight and I simply tightened the screw (T40 star head allen key) straightened the belt and it worked. Both drums work again and my noise has gone, total cost £2 (a set of screwdrivers and allen keys from 99p shop, which I get to keep)

I've got a similar problem.

The machine turns on, you can select prgramme, but when the drum goes to turn it makes an awful grinding noise and the drum does not turn.

No error codes displayed either.

Also the drum hasn't been 'contra-rotating' for a while now, it used to select, made the oblivious clicking sounds but wouldn't fully engage. Now its just packed up completely.

This Dyson machine has been nothing but trouble; door locks, switches, computer panel, hinges... :(
