How can I fix my Marantz CD10?

I bought my Marantz CD10 new in the late 90`s and up until now has been 100% reliable but it has recently developed the following fault..

When I press the open/close button to load a cd the tray opens as it should but when the button is pressed again to close nothing happens and a whiring noise can be heard from inside.once this happens the tray can still be closed with a gentle push on the front of it.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

The drive belts have had it. replace all 4 drive belts. it's a common problem on these mechanisms that are in various other marantz cd players.

Hi Michelle

Just spotted your enquiry concerning your CD10. I too have a CD10 in need of service. Speak to a guy called Arthur of ATW in London W12, he's about to undertake work on my machine.

As for replacing it, well don't and I am a HiFi retailer, enough said!

It sounds as though thogh the drive cogs might be worn and not engaging properly. If you want to fix it, then the whole unit will have to be taken out and examined. Might be time for a new player ?
