AEG 'O'KO Lavamat 971 Sensotronic - Can I replace the motor bearing?

I suspect the bearing at the output end of the motor is gone, due to the noise coming from it when you turn the motor by the drive belt, when it is detached from the wash drum. Can the bearing be replaced and what is involved.
George Christie, November 2005
Yes - I did that job a year ago or so. Had to buy bearings from a bearings specialist as washing machine spares not available. I don't remember any particular difficulty. I think I had to remove the pulley, mark undo 3 or 4 nuts on the through bolts that hold the motor together, pull the assembly apart having marked the casings to remember the alignment, withdraw the rotor from the bearing and then I was able to drive out the old bearing from the housing, press the new one in using a vice, and reassemble. The brush gear may have been a bit fiddly to reassemble - worth taking a photograph of any thing that might go back the wrong way. I think also that the the tachometer had to be removed from the brushgear end, which involved removing a dished washer which was a bit messy.
