Intermittent hot water with a heatline boiler?

I have a heatline S24 compact combi boiler (which several people have told me isn't exactly an award winner). Heating works ok, but when hot tap is turned on it goes off, then on again, then off again etc producing no consistent hot water and pretty unusable shower.

Reading manual and a bit of trial and error I suspect it could be the "Domestic Hot Water sensor" part. Any ideas welcome.

Saf - did you manage to remove the dhw sensor ? We would like to know.

If you are suffering from hot and cold water fluctuations on a heatline Monza combi boiler then check the following FIRST.
If when you turn on the hot water you can hear the boiler fire up with the fan at high speed then do the following to fix it without tools.
1: Hold Mode button for 7 seconds,
2: Use + or - to show 35 on display,
3: Press mode,
4: Use - to show 96 on display,
5: Press Mode,
6: press + or - to show 1 on display,
7: Press mode,
8: Wait 3 seconds,
9: Press mode button for 3 seconds or press the small reset button.

Now try the hot water again, if the boiler fan starts at a lower speed then your problem was corrupt Eeprom on the main PCB.

Basically the boiler is trying too hard to heat the water, the out sensor is seeing the quick rise and shutting down the heat, then it detects the fall in the return and fires the boiler back up again in a never ending cycle.

This also affects the Heating.
If you look at the display and the temperature rises quickly then the boiler shuts down and then fires up again the reset should cure it as long as the sensors, pump, diverter or heat exchanger is not the problem.

The bloke I fixed this for was charged £70+vat by "the professionals" and was told he needed a new pump at £400 fitted. I fixed it for two cups of coffee and a sticky bun.!! And I told him not to pay the £70+ invoice as the monkeys did not deserve it.

Hope this helps you .

just to let everyone know, Glow Worm have now taken over Heatline boilers and guess what, their engineers dont know anything about Heatline boilers... what a suprise.
Im on my 3rd engineer visit in one week trying to diagnose the same problems. i will try all the suggestions myself and hope one works!

Heatline "I hope" have gone bust! No help form call line.
Boiler installed for 2 months before problems.
No help from installer what so ever!!!
If you're having your boiler replaced "buyer beware".

I had the same problem and after 2 "plumbers" with their ideas failed to correct it I spoke to another who told me to turn the water on and put 1 hand on the secondary heat exchanger (small vessel at rear/base of the unit) and the other on the DHW pipe from the unit. If there is a difference there is a blockage in the heat exchanger.
I removed sid unit, washed in water and also filled with Coca Cola for about and hour. Many black flakes came out. I re-instated and everything workd perfectly. could be worth a try.

How do you actually disconnect the DHW sensor?

I have a solaris 30pc this problem happens alot with me I take out the heat exchanger and wash it out as it is usually full of sludge. Its a pain but works everytime

sean, February 2010
I've got the same problem and found if I disconnect the DHW sensor, then the CH works and the DHW works fine.

If I reconnect the DHW sensor then the problem returns.

What does the DHW sensor actually sense?

Definately the DHW flow switch on Heatline S24.

Rizwan, September 2009
it is the plate heat exchanger that has a restriction in the primary water circuit. A very common problem with this boiler

Dulwichdan. If you have a manual for heat line s24
could you please download it to me, I have a problem too but no manual.
Please email pdf to l.reeman@tesco.net
THANKS

L.REEMAN, March 2009
If boiler is in hot water mode only, does it fire up. If not check domestic hotwater flowswitch or possibly pcb.
