Fiat Bravo starter broken?

Just another quick question to all, i removed the starter(cheers Ian for the advice) and took a look at it, in between the rotate bar and the outer rim some of it was broken, would the metal fragments have gone in to the gearbox or would it be o.k...?
i dont want to be p***ing in the wind and get a new starter and the the gearbox goes without having knowledge first
Any answers much appreciated

no it will be fine to remove them theres a plate at the bottom of the gearbox if you remove this you will be able to scoop them out with a small stick these being in there will not cause damage but could rattle about there is a couple bolts holding the plate on and well worth doing.
