Goodmans GMD16R WILL NOT READ MINI DISC?

I Have a Goodman GMD 16R After inserting mini disc and turning on player the following appears:
hello-MD-READING (flashes)for quite a while then it turns itself off.
i know that the midi disc is ok from playing it on another player.

Tried a mini-disc cleaner or a very fine soft cloth to wipe the lens to give it a clean. Worked for me on several MD Players.
