ford fiesta, rev counter needle and speedo are stuck on max?

Car battery died and after bump starting it the rev counter needle some how went all the way round and is now stuck under the plastic bit that the needle rests on when the engine is turned off. Also the same with the speedo needle, it's stuck past 140mph. We have recharged the battery and taken it for test drive but still no joy. (Ford Fiesta T reg 1.25 zetec, petrol engine

Worked first time!! (I was looking at having the vehicle speed sensor removed and a costly assessment bill / replacement part before I read this). Thank you so much for the tip.

Big smile on my face... my car battery died on me 2 days ago, so had it changed. Then noticed that the needles on Revs counter & Speedometer got stuck on max. So I googled it, found this 5 second solution, tested it. Fixed :-) ... me thinks that a garage mechanic might have told me they'd have to take both units apart and charge me accordingly... alas! Thank you :-)

I had the same problem - The reset button for the mile counter is removable - just give it a tug and it comes out leaving a handy hole in the perspex.

A ladies curvy grip, pulled straight was ideal to flick the needles back round to zero.

Works perfectly now

That is superb, I had the same problem when AA changed my battery, rev counter needle went round the clock and stuck under plastic start point. But I did the test and now works fine!!!

Thank you very much!!!!

turn the ignition on whilst holding the mileage reset button, after a few seconds you will hopefully go into a test mode.

now release and press the button once. each press will take you through a test of different things. the first 2 or 3 are related to the dash, one being the needles and one being a bulb test, cant remember which is firtst but give it a try.

Simply turn off the ignition to exit test mode. If this doesn't help you may need to get the clocks out and use gravity to put them back on the right side of the counter.
