How can I fix Computer Freeze?

I have a refurbished IBM Thinkpad T42, running windows XP and uses a wireless card. My problem is when I insert the wireless card the computer freezes up. I can't even get the network or anything set up because as soon as I insert the card it freezes.

It sounds like the drivers are not correctly installed and are corrupting, try booting windows into "Safe-Mode" (pressing F8 repeatedly whilst booting up to reveal advanced startup menu), once in safe mode, plug in card and then right click "my Computer" (XP) or "Computer" (Vista, 7 etc), click "Properties" then "Device manger", once in there a list of hardwre devices installed on yur computer will show up, check eacjh one to see if your device is conflicying with another hardware device (a red "X" or a yellow "?" sign may appear...if it soes then youve found the culprit, try re-installing the drivers, or roll back driver to an erlier version, that should sort your problem hope this helps
