Jeep won't change gear?

I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2.7L crd ltd
Automatic. Everything was working fine, today when I left my friends, I found the engine light (Malfunction Lamp) stayed on, and when I select drive it pulls away ok but won't change gear. Also the lamps that are normaly lit on the gear shift panel, are not lit.
I only have reverse and 1st gear.
Ive checked transmission fluid, thats ok
Any ideas what the problem could be

when I do the key check for the error code
these are displayed
P0700, P1652,P1511,P560,P620,P1685 AND P702
Had a look at the code meanings, but I can't make head nor tail of it.
How far would it be safe enough to drive it, no garages near us, have the equipment to read the computer. Nearest seems to be 10 miles +

The fault codes need to be read. check out www.fedauto.co.uk for local specialist. Its possible that the speed sensor which is a govenor pressure thingy is faulty. if its not working its showing no road speed hence computer commands first gear.
