Passat TDI sport 2001. Fuel economy 20% reduced. Help ??

My Passat sport 2001 used to achieve 650 miles per tank. I'm now getting only 500 miles per tank. Any ideas on the problem and how can I improve the fuel efficiency ??

Your help is very much appreciated.

Have the vehicle serviced regularly and drive with less gusto. Check that you do not have a fuel leak. Check for a worn clutch and or binding brakes.

The fuel metering (rate of flow) in modern cars is very precisely controlled by the engine management system.

I am not qualified to give you this answer - I know nothing of cars.
