how to replace the power cord on a kitchenaid K5-A ?

I can take it apart, but the cord goes in through the bottom middle, into a space I cannot see. The wires in the back don't seem to be attached to the power cord. Any ideas?

Here is a link to the KitchenAid service manual: http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/mendingshed/kitchenaidservicemanual.pdf

You will notice that your cord is a 2 wire cord, the new cords are 3 wire cords. You will just need to ground out the third prong, and you may need to alter the cord sleeve to get the cord to fit.

The trick is to follow the wires to discover where they attach to. There's a guy on YouTube changing a Ktchenaid power cord but it may be on a different model.

Good luck...
