LG TROMM "LE" error code should I buy a new machine, ozone smell?

The other day I got the dreaded LE error code. The washer was not loaded more than usual. It is about 8 years old now. When I saw the error code, I turned off the machine and started it again. It did not work. My clothes were soaked. I did a drain, which worked (press on spin button with no spin just to drain). I then tried spinning my clothes. The drum would lurch a bit- that’s about it. It was unable to make a single revolution, even with all the wet clothes removed.
The filter at the bottom of the machine is cleaned out regularly and it is clean now.
I then tried some suggestions from the forums. I unplugged the machine, and left it unplugged overnight. I held the power button down for five seconds, then plugged it back in. I tried another spin cycle on “low” setting. This time it started spinning, but the motor was louder than normal. After a minute, I started smelling ozone coming from the back of the machine, so I stopped it and have not done anything since. Worth trying to repair or should I just get a new machine? At least the dryer still works, so I’m not replacing that.

LE code relates to motor issue. If it is a brushed motor it might need new brushes fitting.simple to check by removing the motor depending on model
