Gainsborough 9.5 on/off switch repair?

Hi - my Gainsborough 9.5se (or 8.5sdl, serial number implies 9.5, badge says 8.5 - may have had engine replaced by previous owner) was not letting out hot water. I eventually traced it to the pressure valve not coming on to let water in to be heated. I live in a hard water area, so took the shower apart to flush it through with scale remover.

Unfortunately, I fixed one problem and made another. When taking off the push switch (the one that turns the shower on/off) - I undid the two screws holding it together and out pops a spring clip. Not the spring providing resistance to the push, but a clip that seems to ensure that the shower clicks 'on' with one push and 'off' with another push. It's a simple single piece of sprung wire, about 4cm long, with a half loop in.

I can not for the life of me work out how to put the two halves and the clip together in the right orientation to get the push switch to 'click' on and off again. I can only get the switch to now just stay in one position, with no resistance. I need it to click on and off again!

If this makes any sense, your help would be much appreciated.

I was an agent for Gainsborough and all we did was change the engine when it was faulty partly because the valve was complicated and also it was cheaper for them to replace it than repair it
