how do i change the brake pads on a 2000 vauxhall astra 1.7 TD and is there a special tool needed?

all u got to is pop ur bonnet befor u start remove brake cylinder cap and take that sexy wheel off get a big flat head screw driver shuv it in like u do ya bird prise the brakes backwards untill it wow go no more now look at the back of the calpier there 2 13mm nuts take top one fully out and loosen the bottom one and then lift the calper up take the hold brakes out dow forget to remober wear thos metal plates go take a pic if ur not sure then replace brakes done finshed

no need to bleed anythin take only one 7mm allen key out of the caliper slip out the old pads push the piston back clean with a wire brush put some copper grease on the back of new pads place caliper back in correct place and tightenin bolt (not to tight) and push brake pedal several times til it gets hard now tats a job done

to fit the new brake pads the piston will need to be pushed back in. the piston is on a screw thread, so put your old pad back on take the cap of the brake fluid resivoir. now just wind it in with a g-clamp. the reason for the old brake pad is to allow the piston to screw back in, and will stop the g-clamp damaging anything!

the pads screw back in, get a 200/300mm lenght of 5mm rod/scrap bend into a u shape with ends as the slots on end of piston, use it to screw piston back in.

you will need a 7mm allen key to remove the calliper from the carrier. then just push the piston fully back. Before you do this, clamp the hose and open the bleed nipple. this will prevent fluid from flowing back to the master cylinder and causing posible damage.

why why why ???? no need to bleed anything !!!!!!!

when changing pads u may just be able to just pivot calliper and swap brakes then push piston back in but some vauxhalls require a special tool to push piston in far enough to replace pads. You have to remove all of calliper from the discs with only hoses still connected and when you are ready to put pads into calliper u first have to use the tool to drive back pistons because they screw on aswell as needing to be pushed. but make sure u remove brake fluid cap in the engine first and keep an eye on it so nothing goes into it or doesnt overflow.

cant get piston topush back in??? loosened bleed nipple was very tight when winding in g-clamp causing clamp to crack. why wont it go bac in????

you done even need to take the caliper of the car when changing pads, so why would you need to remove it causing you to have to bleed the breaks is beond me.... all you need is a socket set to remove one nut then lift up the caliper and remove the pads, pop some copper slip on the new pads on the back pop back in re do the nut job done
