How can I fix Hotpoint Aquarius 1200 plus?

My Hotpoint Aquarius 1200 PLUS is broke.

The machine was working fine then a loud noise came from the machine and since then the drum is not turning. Basically the drum does not turn anymore on the cycles.

The machine is filling with water when I turn it on so no problem there.

Ive opened the back and the belt appears to be ok though Im no expert.

I need an quick reply if possible as my wife has no patience and wants to buy another very soon. If you can save me a few coppers it would be very appreciated.

Many thanks for any help and support.

Pete,

If you are still having a problem this is what I have just done to our Aquarius 1200 plus.

We had the same problem, machine fills and emptys but wont spin.

Firstly I took the lid off (3 screws at top back) and checked the drum rotated , it should be free running all the way around.
If you do get a sticky bit then expect to find a sock or similar jammed between the stainless drum and the plastic casing (btw you can get to the socks through the large black pipe that leads from the detergent tray to the drum.

All was well and no socks stuck in between the drum. Then I checked the water pump (down at the bottom left and through a larger access panel) As this seemed to be making all the noise. This did have a sock in the filter in the large black pipe leading to the pump. So I pulled it out and put the pipes and pump back together.

The drum was still not spinning so I removed the motor. Loosen the 13mm nut & bolt at the top and push the motor towards the drum, then ease off the belt, and then pull the motor as far away from the drum as possible. Then undo the lower 13mm nut & bolt. Remove the wire connector on the back of the motor and the earth wire and you can now remove the motor. Once it was out of the machine I could see the brushes were badly worn. So £12.69 later a new set of brushes in my hand I pulled out the old ones. Release them with a screwdriver and slide out, remove the wire and slide the new ones into place until you feel the click. Bend out the brush release tab (See documentation with brushes) and reconnect the brush wires. Then refit the motor in reverse order and you should be able to take it for a test run.

Ours is now working even better than before, something to do with the sock in the filter I think.

Hope this helps.

Paul

I got the brushes from a Zanussi (sp?) dealer in Blandford Forum, Dorset. On the bag that held the brushes is a URL to www.theservicecentre.co.uk
