How can I correct a knock or "bump" on driver's side when in reverse?

I have a 1993 Citroen ZX with almost 200,000 miles. Almost every time I reverse the car, there is a loud knocking sound. Lately, it has become louder. Is this a problem with the universal joint? So far, my mechanic has not been able to locate the problem. Can you help.

Yes definatly a problem with 1 of the driveshafts, maybe a new 1 or some lubrication on the inside of the joint might fix the problem. I get that sound while going round corners in my saxo.

it will be the rear radius arm bearings probably not worth doing due to labour costs.
