on shared comp laptop if I sign in my account on comp can connect ok if wife signs in her account on comp wifi shows no connection ? icons in tray but red crosses on them ?

It sounds like you managed to connect your WiFi for your account but not your wifes... smart move hehe...

You will need to set up your wifes account for WiFi also. right click on the wifi icon and select 'view wireless network connections' (or similar) and connect to your WiFi. You may need to use a WEP key if you have security.
