the water is connected power is on i can hear the dishwasher working but the machine is not filling with water, the appliance is about 8 years old,

check out the filter in the flexible water pipe. This can be found inside the straight fitting fastened to water stop valve.
Also check the flexible hose isnt kinked when applience is pushed back into place.

I had this, but the lack of water stalled the programmer. My machine's about the same age as yours Typ S6N28F. A repairman, £45 call out, told me it's not the programmer, he knew it was something else, good clue. My fault was either with the unit fixed to the remote end of the waste water pipe or the flat switch attached to the bottom plate. My guess is that the clear 7mm pipe had come off the former. Anyway, I fiddled with both units and Bingo! Good as new. Hope this helps.
