When I press the button to start the programme the light keeps flashing instead of being permanently on - as a result the wash programme does not start. Does anyone know how to fix this?

sounds like the time circuit board is shot!! this happened to ours, ended up dumping the unit as had multiple problem over past 6yrs and not worth the £120 to fix. Generally not impressed by smeg brand....never but one again as had more problems with the cooker!!!! :-(
