motorola razr v3 cannot power up.

My Motorola RAZR V9 the phone will charge but the minute I try to switch on it loses all power do I need new battery it worked one minute and then just switched off

When ever I type a message my fone only allows me to enter two letters then it freezes.I then have to remove the battery and then put it back in to switch my fone on.
