my ford KA p reg done 75000 miles has recently started to not want to go into 5th gear occationally, is this a common problem, do ford KA gear boxes break. also i have a knocking sound from the front end changed the top mount no change any ideas could there be something in the engine

I have the same problem with changing gears but not with the fifth, with the reverse. A Ka gearbox doesn't really brake since it was made for "abusive city driving", but every now and then needs a bit of lining up. dont really know how much that could cost, since i didn't do it yet.

The front noise that you hear is made by the bearings of the front wheels & suspension. have them all checked in a garrage. they ussualy wear out every now and then since it's a small car and the suspensions are quite "thin"
