how do i adjust the handbrake on a 2001 nissan almera s which has rear disc brakes ?

Have a look under the handbrake lever itself. The N15 model had an adjuster under there, 10mm deep socket does the trick

They should be self adjusting,when did you last have new pads fitted,change them! if that don't work check the cable.
