Can I use ext. HDD formatted with FAT32 sys on WinXp/Win2K?

Can I use ext. HDD formatted with FAT32 sys on WinXp/Win2K?
Vice versa, use ext. HDD formatted with NTFS sys on older or other OS? Why?

Note: I'm a frequent user of external HDD and has got 10 ext HDDs used for my work. I have 1 MAC desktop PC and 1 old laptop PC with a Windows98SE in my house, and I'm using 1 desktop PC running on WindowsXP at my workplace.

Is there any way to have all my ext. HDD can be used in all OS?

Thank You.

Blimey thats a bit of a pickle!!!

Well to answer your question plainly and simply....If you are using Win98 then this will only read FAT32, nuff said.

Windows 2000 I think will read it and XP onwards im sure will read it. I know this works due to USB storage keys being a FAT32 for flexibility and my machines all use NTFS on XP and read it fine.

Hope this helps
