The felt part is not a belt ,but the front seal , the drum is now scraping on the front panel , these m/c 's had various problems with seals coming adrift , depending on the date of manufacture there was a kit to replace the seal or in some cases there was a complete drum and front plate kit which was a bit of swine to do , either way repair involves removing front panel , releasing belt from motor pulleys if not a stretch type belt . if the belt is a stretch type you may have severe problems as even hotpoint engineers have 2 special belt removal/fitting tools (1 small one for early type belts and 1 about crowbar sized for later type) before attempting any repair please ENSURE PLUG IS REMOVED first .you can order seal alone if an early model , you will need the serial no ,the first 2 numbers are a date code which will tell the spares dealer the date of manufacture I wish you luck as it is a pain to do if one of the later models
