Hi to all,

To install a Cig lighter, you must first remove the blanking plate- to do this you need a flat head and need to remove the dash section. Easy, jusy remove ash tray, to find two silver screws, plus if you look up from the radio there are two more remove them!#

After this you also need to remove the lower bin, thats beneth the ash tray. To do this you need to first remove screws from the sides of the bin compartment.

Remove the bin, now the whole section should come out. You do not need to remove all of it, so becareful.

Now you should find a plug, if you have a nissan cig, that should clip on. If not, then you need to cut this off. On there you should see two wires. One orange (on my car) and the other black. The orange is your live. (if un sure test with volt meter).

Connet how ever you wish- I would soulder- but its up to you. bullet connectors are often quickest. make sure you insulate with electric tap.

On mine however, I bought from halfords. It has three wires, one for earth the other two (red) for bulb and power. the bulb and power can be attached together so that both have power.

Assemble the unit back,

Your done.

We bought a '97 micra in the summer and spotted the same thing. The good news is that you should find the power connector for one under the dash behind where it should go.

We payed a visit to the breakers (most enjoyable - but that's a "man thing" I think) and found a few micras of similar age and got the cigar lighter innards out of one of those. It was about third time lucky as lots of them seem to be without originally. I was a bit brutal with the dash on the scrap car as it's a difficult thing to get out - but my wife, with a much gentler approach, was able to get it into her car and connect it up with no trouble. If by any chance you're anywhere between London and the south coast I recommend a trip to "Bridges" car breakers at Pease Pottage, just off the M23 nr Crawley.
