the water inlet check light flashes during the programme and towards the end of the cycle 3 horizontal - - - dashes appear in the display and the buzzer sounds continuously. I've cleaned the fluff (drain) filter and pump, removing lots of limescale but still no joy. Any ideas please?

It's a faulty pcb you can have it repaired for approx 80 pounds from Germany or 60 pounds from a company in uk google miele EL140 repair and you get all your answers!

Most lakely there is internal leak and float in base of machine is activated by water in tray.
Thus --- in display.
