on a small engine, the spark is generated by a MAGNETO, search for this on www.howstuffworks.com to obtain free information. i assume what you mean is there is no spark. try cleaning the plug contacts, or even a new plug, if still no joy, hold the HT lead so you get the spark. pull the starter and if you get a series of small shocks, you know its not the electrics. it doesn't hurt really. if shocks, the problem is not electric, probably carburettor (hard to fix if inexperienced) or major mechanical e.g. piston rings etc. good luck anyway!
