Can I adjust the idle mixture screws dynamically?
Can I dynamically adjust the idle mixture screws on my 78 GS 1000 Suzuki if I don't have an Exhaust Gas Analyzer, basically by ear, or maybe with the help of a digital tachometer? I've removed, cleaned, set the factory initial adjustment, and reinstalled the carburetors. The factory (no tamper) plugs were removed when I bought the bike used. I've read that backing out the idle mixture screws a half to full turn from the factory recommended initial setting may make the engine run better, (remedy off-idle hesitation or flat spots). I know about Honda's idle drop method and am aware of Yamaha's methodology with an Exhaust Gas Analyzer. I obviously don't have an EGA and was curious if there are general mixture screw adjustment procedures besides simply backing out the screws a half to a full turn from the factory recommendations.
