Heavy Steering on Ford KA?

hi i have just bought a 1997 KA with no powered steering. The steering on this vehicle seems exessivly heavy, do you know of any way which could make the steering lighter, as it is for my daughter who will proberly struggle.

Another solution, even if not the best, is to change the stearing wheal with a larger one (driver has to do longer turns of the wheal, but the human power needed decreases), but on a Ka this would make it to get in/out the driver's seat. i would also suggest changing the stearing ratio, but this only in a garrage since it's tricky and hard to do by yourself (any GOOD combinations of these 2+ the tyre pressure should ease up a bit the stearing, but don't expect miracles)

Only thing you can really do is make sure the tyre pressures are correct and have a decent tread depth left on them. No power steering feels horrid nowadays but everyone used to manage without it.
