Element on back burning smell and really warm when on. Does that stop the drum from turning

Drum not turning when on?

Door catch does not fit tightly and the message clean filter is on all the time. Any solutions?

john watts, December 2013
dryer is working normally except it will not collect the water in the water container, drying clothes as normal but water everywhere, checked everything, lint collector etc etc

Can anyone help - the drier won't heat and I have checked the 3 thermostats (two at back and one at top of door) and the heater coils at the rear for continuity and all are fine. I have cleaned everything and vacuumed inside the housing although it wasn't too bad at all.

I'm amazed, thanks to all! my TDC 30 was not getting hot and I followed the advice about hitting the thermostat onto the ground until the top went from concave to convex and it worked! In my case it was the thermostat with the green spot on it. Thanks again, this simple but almost bizarre advice saved me spending 000's on a new dryer.

My dryer isn't heating, thermostats OK, element continuity seems OK (about 20 ohms), how do I work out if it's now this relay gone?

Andy B, September 2010
Used the 'chuck thermostat on ground' technique and it worked a treat!
The green spot thermostat was concave and after the bash I gave it, it popped out to convex again, re-installed it and everything fine.
eSpares quoting 12.99 for thermostat but recommends replacing element as well (45.99) so saved about £60.
Thanks very much!

smoke and burning smell came from it and tripped the electric box

steve s, February 2010
Took out the green spot thermostat after getting heat when I shorted out the thermostat. Hurled it at the floor hard and after two tries it reset!! It's a bit like kicking the car to get it to start.

No charge at all! ( I had seen plenty of green spot thermostats on ebay for about a fiver)

Thanks to this I saved myself £350 on a new machine. I swear I had a replacement in my online [Dixons] basket and then just figured I'd search my old model number just to see what the latest model was and came across this thread.
Bought spares from ebay took me ten minutes and like a new machine now.
So went out and bought a 32GB Ipod touch with the cash I saved, and a speaker dock.
Sincere thanks to all...
....oh and replace both thermostats even though only the green spot has gone t*ts up, a safety issue apparently.

Hiya, had the same problem !
Took the cover off to get at the elements and one stat is concave, but the elements themselves have a silver strip inside them and they are all spapped , does that mean they are knackered ??
Looked on the web and they are £45 including the case
Cheers !
Its a ctd oo

Yeah , my hotpoint aquarius condenser 6KG model no:TDC30P , has problems such as : turning itself of after 1min/ blowing cold air . Although i can start it again after a minute it always results in the same cut out . Conclusion ... it appears its the thermostat . Solution : replace thermostat . Save yourself even more money and go to e-bay and search for thermostat kit you should find loads of choices (for around a £5) just hunt down your make and model no. ( model no. is at the back of your dryer)
Disconnect from mains open back up and locate the thermostat. Take pictures before you do anything you might forget from memory . Result = you saved youself £50 by doing it yourself !!

okay i should not be saying this as work for Hotpoint
the one shot stat has operated so need to replace the stats remove the heater cover on the back on the machine always turn off the power please, there 2 round objects with wires attached to them they are the stats, the stats have coloured dots on them, the one of them will have a green spot on on it this the one at fault and the shiny face of the stat will be concave in shape instead of convexed like the other stat, what it means you dryer has got too hot your local hotpint spares shop will be able to get them from there. replace them in the correct order you found them in, replace the heater cover then clean out the condenser unit and fluff filter and it should work again
hope this works for you it should do

Had exactly the same problem on my one: blown thermostat.
