Clutch operates very close to floor, how do you adjust it

Its self adjusting.....if the pedal is nearly on the floor and the rest of its travel is heavy, chances are the clutch itself is worn out. The self adjusting mechanism is at the top of the clutch pedal though - its a white plastic quadrant. Work seeing if its in one piece!
