Certainly your battery is flat - did you connect the alternator correctly or leave any wires off? Was it a new alternator? Its possible for the alternator to flatten the battery if its faulty - components called 'blocking diodes' do this. When you can get the vehicle starting again, put a voltmeter across the battery terminals - it should read about 14 volts. If the battery goes flat afterwards, disconnect the battery terminals after charging it up - if the battery goes flat again, its faulty. If the battery holds its charge though, the alternator is the likely suspect.
