How can i fix my modem,conexant soft 56k data fax modem?

I have a conexant soft 56k data fax modem.I have the driver on my hard disk.when i want to install the driver, the modem does not accept it.finally an error message displays;A problem occured during the hardware installation.how can i fix it?

Try uninstalling the modem and the drivers. do this by going into the device manager (properties of My Computer). Uninstall the modem (it should uninstall any drivers too). Shutdown the computer. restart the computer and let windows "find" the modem again. If windows automatically loads a driver that doesn't work, then do the unistall/install cycle again and say you want to specify where the driver is, and load it from there.

Might be worth looking on the internet for an updated driver, but if you are running windows 2k, XP or higher, a conexant modem is usually installed automatically without the need for a driver.
Could be a strong possibility that the modem has given up, a replacement is only about a tenner these days.
