Fridge fan making loud noise?

Only today my friday 'cooling' (i believe) fan has started to be very loud and doesn't appear to switch off once door is shut. It makes a loufd 'whirring' sound. I have a samsung american fridge but can't remember model number - any ideas

Thanks guys - we have now tried defrosting and for now that seems to have worked!!

the defrost fan located at the back of the freezer is probably blocked by ice.
this is caused by the dfrost unit being faulty.
i have had this happen to me.
You could try a manual defrost (to melt the ice) But you may need to get a defrost system fixed.
This is not likely to be to expensive and could be a 5-10 min job.

Defrosting your fridge will get your machine cooling again but may only postpone your woes... Try to post a model number for research of defrost components...

snap!! we have the same problem and thats why i logged onto this!! we have the same problem as you but now the upper half of the fridge is not working and the fan appears to have stopped.

we rang an engineer and he said it's a build up of ice and said the fan has been catching on the ice thus the noise.

He said to turn the fridge off and empty it for 2 days then turn it back on again. sounds odd but i'm waiting with baited breath! kevin -
