timing on a consew?

i have just bought a second hand consew industrial sewing machine.
the needle is hitting the top of the part that pick up the thread. how can i ajust it?
also what type of belt should i have to run the motor and the machine as mine seems to tight.

You should have an adjuster for the belt, the belt usually is a V type, if you e-mail me drivewithken@blueyonder.co.uk I will attach the timing instructions.
