It could be the movement needs replacing. This is possible but often costly. Also try to find a friendly and sensible watch repairer (one place I took my Accurist to just gave it me straight back saying it was not worth it!! Yeah for him...) as he/she may be able to test it.
By twist button I assume you mean the crown (changes time etc)...this could be the result of ingress of water into main chamber. Check for rust however small using magnifiying glass etc.
