My Brandt frost free fridge freezer has this problem:the freezer fails?

Lights were on, motor running but not freezing.
Wendy, December 2007
Mine started doing the same thing. The grill at the bottom back corner was covered in ice. It was a little better after derfrosting visible ice, then after a month or so it stopped freezing again. I have no handbook nor do I know what model it is (just has A Class on front), as I bought it 2nd hand 18months ago. In desparation I turned it off at the plug, read some solutions on this site and decided to remove the plastic cover at the back (inside the freezer compartment) by pushing the centre of the stud clips, (most of the centres I retrieved with pointed tweezers, its really tricky, those which evaded me, I replaced by cutting down a small kebab stick).
This revealed a polystyrene sheet with hole at the top where the fan is, all across the bottom it was iced up, pressing the sheet I could feel there was ice behind it, it was frozen in solid. I placed a tub of boiling water & a towel in the compartment, shut the door and waited. (Replacing the hot water and towel on numerous occasions.)
After 24-48 hours or so, the ice behind the polystyrene sheet had finally melted, enabling its removal. This revealed a metal matrix which must of been solid with ice. I wiped up, re-assembled the parts, turned it on and hurrah! It freezes again! How long it will last before total defrost is needed again I don't know. Don't think I'll be buying another, or (recommending) a Brandt "frost free" fridge freezer, as this appears to be a design fault. It may look smart but I could do without the hassel!
