your in a long list of people m8 the answer is i feel, bad workmanship, generally a "dry joint" on the printed circuit board. Find an electronic engineer or take a chance with a soldering iron, some joints are very small and close together so precede carefully. Also there are firms on net that specialize, good luck

paul, March 2010
What a star, I have had the same problem and the only way to get in the car was unlocking the door with the key but this sets the car alarm off which my neighbours probably aren't too impressed with at 5.30am when I went to work. So not only is it a big thanks from me but my neighbours now won't get an early morning wake up call.

Well done. Big thanks

place the key in the ignition and turn the ignition ON press either the lock or unlock button and the doors will lock indicating that it has linked into the system. the key fob will now work

Don't think doors open/closed matters: I had exactly the same issue in Dec 07, and have just followed Michael R's answer (though with the driver door open) which worked a treat - Thanks

Sam C, January 2008
Try (with the doors closed) putting the key in the ignition, turning until the ignition light come on on the dash board, then pressing the lock button on the key- this should resynchronise the car and the key fob.
