anti pollution fault on peugeot 307 any ideas?

ok i own a 52 plate 1.6 petrol pegeot 307. it was stood for a week when i came to start it the battery was dead. i jump started it and then "anti pollution fault" came on the dash. i have replaced the battery but the engine management light and anti pollution fault is still coming on. any ideas before i have to pay the garage? please.

Same here, orange engine light on, anti pollution warning etc. After reading on here, I revved the engine for a while then turned off and on a few times removing the key. Lights out, all good. I was due to take it to the garage later. My problem is that I leave my car for days in work as I use a company vehicle, sometimes 10/12 days and then just pop home in it when I'm off work for a day or two. I phoned the garage to tell him the problem is fixed (hopefully) and mentioned to him about hardly using the vehicle. "That's the problem" was the reply. From now on I'll drive to work in the car and come home in it too instead of the company car.

I have got a 307 hdi for my lass after having a 205 and a306 19 diesel my self and I thought they were grate cars how wrong can you be could not have got her a worse car what a pile of sh.t with only 60k on it had any pollution fault just had to put up with it coming on and of now and agen now turning its self of when you Rev it! she is pregnant and it is so dangerous I feel so bad took the dps filter out and took it to get remapped but have told me that it is showing low fuel pressure falt so cost is rising to get it fixed? Should I throw more money at it or scrap it suggest buying your worst enemy a Peugeot for a present

I have had a year of problems intermittently with breakdown , anti pollution light , bad starting , interior lights playing up , economy mode coming on randomly ! Had new coil pack , crankshaft sensor , battery , new exhaust .... Starting after leaving the car for an hour became ridiculous . So had it booked in for full service at a Peugeot dealers , and list of my problems over the last year . Technician checked vehicle and the conclusion was to change the under bonnet fuse box system ... 290 pounds inc fitting and my car runs beautifully .... No pollution light , engine light , starts first time and fingers crossed problems solved

Also had the engine management light come on after the engine cut off and went to limp home mode - with the car in neutral, I revved the engine to 4000revs for 30secs and the light has gone, no issues as yet.

had this fault on my 307 1.4d 52 plate.First time around red x worked.Second time I had to bleed the fuel filter.this time I have changed the filter and added some red x and some diesel particulate filter regenerator to the fuel,just in case its the particle filter.Job done. There are that many causes for the anti polution warning that I have been lucky that it has so far been down to fuel issues.And not just cheap fuel.I begrudge spending the £70 odd pound to put it on a diagnostic then what ever it costs after to fix the issue.Filter was roughly £30

hi guys i don't if this ever got a decent answer but i had a bit of a read of this post as a friend brought his car to me with this same error

he has a pug 307 1.4 petrol (anti pollution fault)

(only diesal cars have use the dpf)

i connected the car to my universal obd elm device via laptop and received error codes

p0609
p0341
p0106

i erased the codes run the engine error was back and re read the codes again same error codes

i cleaned the cam sensor i erased the codes run the engine the engine light was back and re read the codes again this got rid of the p0341 but dont let this fool you

the p0106 refers you to the map sensor so i replaced the map sensor i erased the codes run the engine the engine light was back and re read the codes again no change

so i put the old map sensor back in i then changed the spark plugs i erased the codes run the engine the engine light was back and re read the codes again and got a missfire code i erased the codes run the engine the engine light was back and re read the codes again missfire code had gone but the other 2 codes still there

so i replaced the cam sensor even though the cam sensor code had gone just by cleaning it i erased the codes run the engine engine light was still on waited a couple of minutes shut the engine off erased the codes started the engine engine light was on for about 10 seconds then went off shut the engine off read the codes no errors did this a couple of times after starting the engine no error codes no engine light turned out to be the cam sensor and possibly a bad spark plug

peugeot said the codes we get on the universal obd readers will not narrow it down enough as there software reads the codes differently and tells them exactly what is wrong £72 for them to do a diagnostic £72 for the first hours labour i spent £14 on the universal reader bought 1 sensor for £32 (MAP) returned it got the cam sensor and plugs with the refund fault gone repair done for £46 total

I have a 307sw with pollution problems I usually keep tank full I run it down to just over 1/2 a tank then refil with egg cup full of diesel redex cleans .Cleans all engine moving parts & you will get extra power I think pergeot should be hung drawn& Quarterd for the extra cost to there punters JB (rocky) March 2014

Car:- 307 1.6hdi, year 05. mileage 119,000. General behaviour good. APF light has come on several times but no limp mode. Ignored light and it always goes off after a few restarts. Average mpg 55.2 over 6200 miles. Boot normally full of my work tack ( 3 to 4 hundred weight ) Over 19,000 miles only problem had to replace battery. Always runs on supermarket fuel. No smoke smell or worries. Now has first thing that needs attention is blowing injector. Been a fantastic little car for 18 months. Even went through the mot with no problems. Why the post? Just to let you all know there are some good cars on the road. Reading this thread makes for depressing reading so I hope this has cheered you all up a bit.

My 308, 59 plate which I recently bought had anti pollution fault within a few days, reduced power but fixed its self, same happened again a couple of weeks later, again sorted its self out. A few weeks later broke down on m25 with a lot of cost! Traced it back to every time I filled up with tesco fuel! Since using bp diesel no problems! I won't buy tesco fuel again

my Peugeot 307SW 2.0D has warning about Anti-pollution fault appeal about four day ago and two day later it disappear.. then todays, it appear say Battery Charge fault, then appear say ESP/ASR not functions, ABS faults, Airbag fault, Brake fault, Headlight and side light went off, then No powerSteer then no power on Brake system... RAC found CamBelt Pulley shear off from engine block... so RAC man tell me that it need ramp up and then drill off shear bolt and put new cambelt pulley into Engine block... SO I don't know about how much cost!!!!

I have a 206 coupe 53 plate. I find that when we have heavy rain my engine management comes on and various faults get displayed. So far we have seen cat fault, anti pollution fault and air bag fault. My orange light comes on as well. We are sure water is getting in somewhere and affecting the ECU. As soon as we start getting the fault messages we spray specific areas of the engine with WD40 to repel water and the faults warnings soon vanish. This has always been the issue with my car and ive owned it for 6 years now.

I had this problem with my 307 2l di which I bought second hand recently. First I had the ABS fault light, which was fixed by my partner by taking off all the wheels and cleaning the sensors. Then the fan stopped working, fixed with a new resistor. Then this!
After reading several advice threads and wishing I had never bought this car I tried the easiest solution offered and took off the fuel cap and cleaned the metal sensors on the cap and around the rim. Light has now gone. I do hope this is the last fault for a while and that I learn to love this car. Every trip out at the moment is with trepidation!

hello , the dpf is full and you have to fill up the eolys176 fluid that is normal every 125000km.
you can remove the dpf too manually and with a new programm with a galetto 1260 and a new carthography for the calculator. sorry for bad English i am french

I had this problem on a car I have owned for just a couple of weeks and I was about 300 miles away from home on a drive back on the motorway prob halfway home the de pollution light came on. The only thing I done different was filled up with tesco diesel (did abit of research when i got home on the net) filled the rest of the tank up with Shell Nitro + and this lights gone away like it was never there.

I had the same problem with the antipollution fault and engine management light on my 2008 206 1.6d. Realising I had only been driving short distances I thought I'd try the 'run the car at 3000 revs 2nd/3rd gear for 5 minutes' to give it a good burn. Didn't work the first time so did it a second time and it seems to be fine now. Fingers crossed it stays that way and thanks for the posting.

Right, got an update on my 58 plate 308.
I refused point blank to pay the extortionate cost of a diagnostic scan at the Peugeot dealership, so spent £20 on eBay for a cheap all in one scanner of my own.
RESULT!!
one of the wires on my lambda/O2 sensors is damaged, all iv gotta do is replace that (an easy fix as I've also bought a Haynes manual)
It's gonna cost me about £70 to buy, 15 mins to fit, and I'll be as good as new!

I've got a '58 plate 308 and I'm struggling with this issue constantly.
I always use Tesco or ASDA fuel, so will throw a full tank of overpriced BP in next time.
I'm extremely p'ssed off with Puegeot who want £60+ vat to run a diagnostic and then price you for extra parts and work.
Has anyone gone to BBC Watchdog about this??
I'll let you know how I get on with the super pricey fuel

I had the problem that my girlfriend`s peugeot 307 diesel didn´t even start. The board software set the engine on STOP and on top of that came the "anti pollution fault"message. Called Peugeot service-they wanted me urgently to come to the garage, which I didn´t...

I first checked all fluidlevels (incl. additive), jumpstarted the car and did a 15 min testdrive with about 60-70 mph to find out any strange behaviour (sound, speed, rpm,etc) - there weren´t any - so I knew it was probably a software problem.
I unplugged battery for a couple of minutes, reset of boardcomputer -- and everything fine eversince.

3 months later I had the general inspection (where I didn´t tell them on purpose what happened before) and everything was fine - so I had my confirmation that peugeot always wants our money - whether there is a real issue with the car or not...

Try a few logical things yourself, before you give them your money for nothing - but be aware that my example is not the solution for every "anti pollution fault" messages!

I have a 307 1.4 petrol 04 plate Peugeot. Last night I got a "Anti pollution fault" display. The way I rectified this was:

1) I sometimes let the orange light come on my fuel - DON'T do this! Always make sure there is sufficient fuel in you car. I topped the fuel up and the fault light went off.

2) I topped up the tank with some Reddex Fuel Cleaning fluid

3) I then took the car for a 30 min drive down the motorway travelling at approx 60 mph for the duration.

This seemed to make the vehicle less sluggish and run more smoothly.

This may not work for everyone but it's certainly worth a try ;-)

i have had the dreaded anti pollution fault loss of power i spoke to a time serverved mechanic who advised me to clean and flush fuel tank to clear any water condensation build up same with radiator clean plugs leads filters. this advice cost nothing and since doing this over 6 months ago i have not had no problems no warnings. he also advised not letting fuel tank should not go below half as this would lead to a condensation build up. a higher octane fuel is optional. taking your car to a diagnostic centre they will only be able to give you answers/solutions that have been put into the computer?

jjlorrydude.... just sorted the anti pollution fault on the exact same car - was a blocked particulate filter, you can clean them out, but it thankfully is a patent part so you can get a new one for £100 - £150, make sure your additive tank isn't empty too, you can fill that up yourself with jlm pat fluid.

It is the Coil Pack on its way out. Eurocar parts stock them. I had this confirmed at a independent PEUGEOT specialist with the diagnostic kit.

I own a 207sw (2009) 1.6 diesel and when I go uphill at more than 2000rpm the anti pollution fault comes out. This happened already 2 times and the only way to remove the fault is to drive in 2nd or in 3rd gear in 3000rpm range for about 5 minutes. The error will disappear as soon as you start again. If it does not clear drive for another few minutes at the same 3000rpm speed always in low gears.

We have a 308 1.6 turbo that is mostly driven around town. Apparently they "clog" if you do small trips. When the light comes on we take is for a high speed drive for a few hours which runs the motor hot and cleans out the system. The light goes out a day or so later. This advice was given to us by a Peugeot expert over here and has worked.

Thanks to this forum I saved myself the AU$126 the mechanic charged to "reboot" the system last time this happened. I filled up with ultra-premium and within a couple of kms the light had gone. I suspect my usual garage, which has recently changed hands, may be selling inferior petrol. Fingers crossed it's as easy as that.

Filling up the tank with premium diesel is NOT a universal cure for this problem. Many of you guys have just been lucky by coincidence. I always use V-Power and I still get this fault all the time. Neither does it help to drive with a constant high speed for a period of time. The problem comes and goes, no matter what I do.

The "Antipollution Fault" is a "Catch All" error message and can be caused by a million different errors, glitches and whatever. Peugeot should have solved this problem years ago.

I hate this car but can I sell it? Wouldn't that be unethical? Bad karma? Would I be able to look myself in the mirror afterwards?

I have a 307 HDI 2:0 Diesel
Recently it has been very sluggish, struggling to do 60mph on dual carriageway in fourth gear. Last week the engine management light came on and it said 'antipollution' fault and then really struggles to drive so I stop, turn the engine off and on normally twice and it's OK again.
I took it to small one man garage and he's never heard of the fault. The bloke in garage next door said his mate's just fixed one and apparently som 307's have some fluid by back passenger side wheel which when running low says 'anti-pollution fault' apparently this fluid costs £200 a gallon!!
I don't know what to do, want to sell the car but then won't get much for it with this problem hmmm help!

Please don't panic when this comes up on the 307. Also dont panic when you read forum messages about it likely to be part of the Cat Convertor and it's likely to cost you £700 at a Peugeot Dealer. Its plain and simple. If you get the error, find a local car mechanic, nothing too big, give them a call, tell them that they have been recommended to you (always goes down well) and that you have the error. Most of the time they will say bring it in and they will stick the computer on it. (Take it to a Peugeot Dealer they are likely to charge you £150 to put it on the computer.) The local car mechanic is likely to do it for free. Once it's been on the computer only then will you find out the true error.

The last time I got this error on my 307 the fault was due to the spark plugs needed changing. A grand total bill of £30 !!

I had the same problems 3 days ago. The anti pollution warning and engine management light came on in my 52 reg 307. It also drives very jerky at low revs and cuts out when idling hot at traffic lights etc. Took it for diagnostics at local workshop and the error code (P0171 i think) said it was running lean....

They could not pinpoint the problem and said it could be many things. They recommended a full service at £150 and then to take it from there. I was a bit reluctant on spending that much cash and it might/ might not work.

So I follow the advice on this thread. It did not want to reset the fault after 6 engine restarts though... Yesterday I put in £30 worth of BP unleaded 97 and the fault disappeared on my way back home tonight! No more jerky running engine! Its running very smooth. It must have been the cheaper fuel I randomly filled the car with sometime.... Hope it stays away.

Anti-Pollution Fault Warning - could this be the answer?

I have a 308 HDI 1.6 Manual. Fairly new 40000 Km. Never had a problem. Yesterday the anti pollution light came on. Have read all the posts and did some research. Here is what I found.

I am currently on a long trip and filled the car up with diesel at a service station in a small country town - about 200km ago. Possibly the reason.

In my research I came across this which explains why using the better fuel and long runs on the motorway seems to fix the issue. It's from an Official Renault Handover Guide for Diesel Engines with Exhaust Particle Filter.

The following instructions should be followed to ensure diesel engines fitted with an exhaust particle filter (FAP) operate under the best possible conditions.

What is a FAP used for?
To protect the environment: the FAP stops particles being emitted from the exahust system and is currently used only on diesel engines. By filtering the exhaust gas the particle filter stops over 95% of particle emissions.

How does it work?
The FAP accumulates the particles of soot and eliminates it periodically by automatic regeneration.

What is regeneration?
It is the elimination of soot by high temperatures in the FAP. To make this regeneration process easier, the engine should be used regularly at a sufficient level to ensure high enough temperature of the exhaust gas. During the regeneration phase, high temperatures in the FAP may cause a smell of burning. Especially during the first regeneration.

What does this mean for the customer?
There is no particular issues for the customer except for the specific driving conditions stated below. Regeneration is an automatic process that occurs during normal driving conditions.

Recommendations for driving

Just as fuel consumption may vary, the FAP contamination may vary with driving style. Drive progressively without harsh acceleration to reduce the rate of FAP contamination and to limit the number of regenerations. Driving in this manner also reduces fuel consumption

Warning Note

The temperatures during FAP regenerations is high. DO NOT PARK THE VEHICLE ON A SURFACE WHERE THERE ARE MATERIALS THAT ARE SENSITIVE TO HIGH TEMPERATURES.

Specific conditions for Megane II & Scenic II

Vehicle driven for long periods in urban areas:
AT Low Speed
For approximately 180 miles

The message "FAP needs regeneration" or an orange light, or both (depending on the vehicle: refer to the drivers handbook) may appear on the instrument panel.

This message indicates that the FAP is almost fully saturated with soot. If these driving conditions continue, the FAP will be fully saturated after approx 50 miles.

In this case, the advice given is the same as that stated in the drivers handbook:
In order to enable the particle filter to be cleaned, we recommend that you drive the vehicle as soon as possible until the waring light goes out, at an average speed of 50mph (80km/h) providing that the following conditions allow it:
-traffic conditions
-legal speed limits
-Regeneration typically takes about twenty minutes from the moment it starts, if the driving conditions remain favourable. The warning light or the message will then disappear. Nevertheless, if these instructions are not observed, a second warning (service warning light + Injection warning light) may appear. It is recommended in this case that the vehicle be returned to a Renault dealer as soon as possible to carry out a forced regeneration.

Important note: Certain types of operator who drive only in urban conditions, taxi, police, local delivery operators, etc must be made fully aware of the operational requirements for the Megane II & scenic II fitted with this FAP engine prior to purchase.

So it seems that the use of a lower quality fuel may be clogging up the FAP filter. If you keep driving it, with the poor fuel, it clogs it even more and the other symptons start to appear (limp home mode etc)

When you add a higher quality fuel and drive it on the motorway, the clogging stops and it seems to undertake the regeneration they speak about (burning of the soot) in the filter. This also ties in with the forced regeneration by the dealers in some posts and funny smells.

Ok so this evening I will add the better fuel and drive on to the next town. If you don't hear from me again, send out a rescue party - I probably broke down following dodgy advice from the internet......

Start the car 5 times, but after each time take the key out of the ignition and away from the car.
On the 6th time the computer should reset the fault.
Key MUST be away from ignition so system does not read key

I have a 03 Peugot 307 HDI and while accelarating in 2nd gear the car just started reving (on its own) at 5000 revs. I had slowed down took it out of gear but the reving continuted for a few moments then stopped, after this the engine management light came on and "anti pollution fault" was displayed. Any suggestion or others experienced the reving on its own

ive had similar problems with my 307, anti pollution light kept coming on , ive had various parts replaced, it fixed the problem but after a couple of weeks of putting the new part on the problem appeared again, eventually i got the injectors replaced and the anti pollutioin light has not been on since! i thought that was the problems over but it wasnt, its been one problem after another since i got this car! ive only had it 1 year and ive spent £1800
i would not advise anyone to get a peugeot 307!!

I have a 307 1.6 pertrol, if i go over 4,000revs or 70 mph i get a anit polution fault first, then a cat fault next.

I've replaced spark plugs, coil Pack and tried as suggested BP ulitmate plus injector cleaning fluid.

Any one got any ideas as i have a 400 mile journey on saturday. thanks

this is due to a software bug in bsi. Disconnect batery for 10 minutes and reconnect, this will fix it for another year, after this you have to repeat same procedure every 12 months. Obey the 3 minute rule when disconnecting/ reconnecting battery

hi I have a similar problem with my 307, 2006 petrol peugeot. 12 mths after buying it the engine warning light came on and the msg read 'faulty anti pollution' I took it to my dealer who fixed the problem by putting in a code and charging me £110 to do it. 12 months later it went again, this time it cost me £500 to have something replaced that was faulty and giving the on board computer false readings. 12months and 8 days later it went again, this time my dealer said it was outside the 12 month warranty and they would have to look at it again. I cant afford another £500. has anyone got any suggestions.

One morning it spluttered, reset the clock and started with the anti pollution error. I've just re-seated all the fuses and found a dessicated locust in the fuse box. Blew it out and presto. So far, so good.

I've had the same problem for 6 months and I did not change anything as different mechanic's were suggesting to replace different filters, sensors etc. that were pretty expensive. I had Peugeot dealer update my software but that didn't help neither. What I did after reading some comments in this & other WebPages is that I added kind of additive (cleans the tank & other filters, pipes whatever) got it at the gas station and it cost me around 8€. That fixed my problem as since jan-2011 I don’t get those annoying messages antipollution fault nor low-fuel. Therefore I suggest anyone who has same problems as I did on my Peugeot 307 HDI 2.0 to try and buy this kind of additive produced by "Wurth" that you add just before you refuel your tank also you can read instructions on the bottle. During this time you should try and drive at least 3 times on opened road at speed 110km or higher for 4-5min.
Note: you should not add diesel until you estimate that its by the end, as adding diesel may reduce the effects of additive.

We have experienced this fault now and then ever since our 307 2.0 was 6 months old. It's a -03.
The diagnostic tools doesn't register any fault codes and the mechanic told us that it's probably caused by a miss fireing or something like that.
We have never noticed any lack of power or other bad engine behavior when this happens.
He adviced us to wait until after 3-4 cold starts (completely cold engine) to see if it dissapeares - and it allways does!
Still quite anoying to have a fault message (that should be taken seriously) that pops up now and then.

Same issue, usually occurs when its really cold. Get a juddery start up, revving causes the fault to occur. I tend to just leave it and give the car a blast up the motorway. That usually clears it. Believe it is something to do with the sensors close to the cat...

Engine warning light came on along with anti pollution fault. The dealership quoted £68 + VAT for a diagnostic test. The car is very low mileage for its age (04 with 12000 miles) It has not been serviced for nearly 2 years as 1 year ago the dealership said not to waste money. I changed the air filter (£7.50) that I guess was blinded with 2 or more years of use and everything is now OK.

I brought an 05 plate 307cc auto 8 months ago and so far the reverse sensors have gone – they make the long beeping noise when put into reverse and last month the main beam stopped working on the indicator stalk and it cost me £400 to get it replaced. The exhaust seemed a bit noisy recently and today when I switched on the engine ‘antipollution fault’ flashed up and the main engine light came on, just took it to kwik fit as thought maybe the exhaust had gone. They took a look, the exhaust seemed ok and got them to run it through their diagnostic machine, unknown fault and invalid ratio came up. They re set it and the light and warning message has gone and said it was probably faulty or sensitive sensors and that it happens a lot. The diagnostic should have been £30 but they didn’t charge me. Even £30 would have been cheaper than Peugeot costs of £60 for the diagnostic plus labour

i got the same problem auto gear fault and anti pollution fault ,, i took out the air filter and blow it out and also sprayed a trottle body spray into the trottle body while the engine is off after the signal came off

Was out driving popped in to a shell garage spent £40 note on fuel drove 5 miles home 100 meters from my drive way yelow engine and the message "catalytic converter fault" drove the 100 meters parrked the car it will now not start.. any sugestions

I have just bought a 307 envy 1.4 on a 2004 plate. Its only done 54k on the clock. I had the car for only a month, and low and beyond, just like the rest of you the Anti pollution Fault light came on. Well, my neighbour, whom also possesses a peugeot, but a 2.0 on a 2004 plate has suffered the same problem for 5 years now and spent over £5k trying to fix it.
Im wondering whether this is definately a manufacturers fault/problem. These cars manufactured during this period should have had a recall I reckon...!!
Anyway, I will take the tips from all you guys and try to;
Use injector cleaner
Use Premium unleaded fuel and rev the engine like mad for 5 minutes
possibly disconnect the battery and change the fuel filter.
I will let you know how I get on....somehow dont hold your breath!!
What is actually the cause for this APF? sensors? or filters or whatever...I m no car mechanic!! apparently even the main dealer, peugeot cant figure it out according to some owners whom took their cars there. Is there hope?

We have got a 206 and a 307 we have experienced the enginne light on both cars seems to only occur after I wash them and hose down or in heavy rain. Error goes off on most occasions when both cars dry out. No damage caused driving either car whilst anti pollution error message is on. But coincidentaly my 206cc is driving as if its missing RAC say coil replacement required ? After reading other peoples commentsit possibly is cheap fuel related. Anyway if it drives ok and not sluggish i would ignore th engine warning for anti pollutant.ps, would not buy another Peugeot ever should have stuck with my Honda.

I got the anti pollution fault warning after filling up my tank at a supermarket. Reading through these posts I decided to try the suggestion of filling up with a full tank of premium unleaded and then took it for a fast run on the motorway and the fault has cleared. You're advise had saved me time and money,.

Had problem with Anti Pollution Fault on 2003 307. My mechanic recommended a replacement coil? Estimated cost $NZ1000. Just filled up with BP Ultimate (with Wynns Injector cleaner) and problem has been fixed (hopefully).

I have 6 307sw 1.6hdi 90 and when the anti pollution system fault popped up believe or not just by simply changing the fuel filter as cured the problem on all 6 of my 307's

I drive 307xsi 2.0l stood for close to 3weeks clutch fault. On starting APF light came on after three drag stall starts. Using lovely posts from here I rev for about 3mins at 4000rpm, discon batt for 3min started again and lol the alarm antipollution gone!!

My 207cc has only done 6,000 miles. Anti Polution sensor just popped on. Main dealer charged me approx £60 to diagnose the problem and told me the oxygen sensors are to blame and my care needs an ECU software upgrade another £45.83. They said they are 90% sure this will resolve the problem - when asked what if it doesn't they said then we won't charge you as your car is still under warranty but that does not include the software upgrades. My car a 307 X-Line 1,6 manual displays the APF only some times, but the problem is that every now and again the car switches off when i get to a stop. It can stay away for days then just do it once or twice. What i noticed is that the exhaust emissions smells like fireworks. Please assist as i don't have a lot of money. At the moment no solution.

Driving home 2 nights ago on the motorway when the "anti pollution" fault light came on and then the engine cut out. Restarted the engine and like others here was only able to get to 3000 rpms max, very annoying.

After reading this board- thought it'd be worth a try filling up with premium bp petrol. Miraculously it worked.... no more fault light and i can drive normally. Will let you all know if the fault recurs or if my car explodes in a giant fireball next week

I've just bought a Peugeot 307 1.6 Hdi and found it with the anti pollution light on. Didn't know what is was so looked on internet and found it confusing with people saying that dealers replace items but still doesn't fix the problem.

I took it to a local garage who know what they are doing and they told me this is a common problem with Peugeot and Citeron cars. They hooked the car on a computer and reved the hell out it in every gear. This fixed it. All it cost was £45, although was told to take it on the motorway which might fix it by the posts on the internet.

Don't let people make you believe that loads of parts have to be replaced.

I had several cut outs and a drag start on my 307xsi 2l. I first changed plugs, then pet filter but already the problem had appeared to clear. Then the car would start fine in the morning and at the work place. When I parked at home after a 30km drive from work the car started cut outs everytime I took my foot off gas or on braking. On stopping the engine failed to crank but all other accessories were working. Everytime it cut out all the displays reset to zero date, language etc. What could be the trouble?

I had this message appear last year, 6 days after I bought the car. Was still under warranty and after resetting the computer, it had to have a new catalytic converter. Oddly enough this was after I filled up at an Esso station on a motorway.

Well I filled up at that same station 2 days ago and the message appeared again. I do think that perhaps there could be something in this idea about dodgy fuel. I was gonna do some investigation tonight, but on driving the car earlier, the message has gone away, but another light was flashing.

I wonder whether its a fuel thing, or is it just dodgy sensors in the car and they just go on and off at random. From the looks of it it seems to be the latter and I suspect like many manufacturers Peugeot are just ignoring it as they know it will cost them a fortune to recall and fix the problem.

Shame as its put me off Peugeot forever, this was my first and will be the last. Having paid out over a £1000 to keep it on the road in a year, it will be going sooner rather than later.

Oh and just in case you want to avoid the 'dodgy fuel', steer clear of the Petrol station on the M27 in Hampshire at Rownhams Services (going West towards Southampton). Think its Esso, but it could be Texaco, its a red one. Back to good old Tesco for me!!!

I am planning to by a used Peugeot 307 7 seater. The person selling says there is a light that has come up following the EGR valve and CAT being fitted. She says it will cost £60 +VAT only, never had a Peugeot before wondering if this is all it will cost. The car is diesel. Seems that petrol version needs expensive fuel to run efficiently, I do not want to be stranded alone with 3 kids... HELP!!!

I got the Anti Pollution System fault many many times on 1.6 HDI engine, every time after tanking fuel on bad small stations or in Italy, or east europe. (sorry guys, but your fuel sucks big time). Only recently got power problems though. There are 3 stages of the fault, firstly just the warning goes on on screen, 2nd, the engine wont go over 3k rpm and be generally sluggish, 3rd the engine cuts of the gas, forcing you to stop, though usually restarting car makes it drive again. Had it happen to me in 10 km tunnel - not the funniest moment really. I wouldn't trust most of car shops with that problem, even at Peugeot authorized station. Honestly, the guy wanted to make a full check-up ("since you tanked bad fuel") and even wanted to look in differential too. I asked him only to empty my tank, so i can put some better diesel there. He wouldn't. For gods sake, this problem is common for last few years, I am not falling for story that he never heard of it before.
That's the only solution known for the HDIs, put better fuel and drive it off. After tanking full tank of crappy diesel, it took me 25-35 liters of Shells v-power diesel to make it run normal rpm. The light takes long time to disappear though. Days or weeks even.
Some people claimed you can exchange the pollution sensor itself.

i bought a 308 in feb 2010 the car is an 09 plate and two months later the faulty anti pollution came on the dash board and had loss of power ,took it back to our local peugoet dealers where we bought it from david haytons ,they had it for a week said it was fixed driving on the motorway and it happened again loss of power back again it went to david haytons a week later car back said to be running ok ,driving on the motorway again doing 70 in middle lane it happened again ,its very unsafe as you all can imagine and me and the children were left feeling very frightened by the experence aa recovered by this time im well and truely p off ,but they dont want to know they've got your money and thats it .we get the car back for a fourth time and theres damage to the car so it goes back again next day we collect and just have it for 30 mins or so sets off to work and you'v guessed it faulty antipollution light back on and loss of power .i told them to stick the car and i want my money back ,but its not going to be easy they said we can have a replacement car but its not the same colour mine was black and 18k miles on clock they'er offering a dark blue with 22k on clock.we had an issue before this because we went in for a sport and as the sales man said there were crossed wires ,why would i trade a 307 black with alloys and tinted windows for a bog standard car?so thats been an on going battle im defo not going to deal with them ever again and the more i research the more i dont want another peugeot a recall needed so hopefully someone is going to help us .like someone said we need a night in shinning armmer not a happy lady.

I have had this problem once a year since I have owned my Peugeot 307, every year I carry on driving it until eventually I put it in the gararge and every year they come up with something else as the reason. This time it's the coil and spark plugs, costing me £285. I won't be buying a peugeot again!!!

My 307 1.4 petrol 2004 plate bought from new has this APF since 2006. Dealer charged over £470 to fix fault.After a battle with Peugeot I got the money back. Since then this fault occurs every 2 months. Dealers cant help as they dont know what the fault is, so they then tell you that sensors are required, but its catch 22 cant tell you what the fault is till they strip it down, guess what the want megga bucks to fix it. And yes comments listed that peugeot are not interested are correct.I've been told its the type of petrol that I'm using/not using the car on long runs/not driving it properly,all of which is rubbish.Incidentally a friendly mechanic told me that the system will correct its'selfafter turning the ignition key about 30/40 times, this cures mine. However we all need a WHITE KNIGHT who will take up the battle with Peugoet to get them to recall models to fit a design change.

sadly bought a 307 after having a great 406 and before that a 405. my antipollution light came on intermittently for about 18 months after buying the car ( its a 55 plate and i bought it when it was 18 months old)...used to right itself by turning engine off waiting a couple of mins then turn on again. however last june 2009 driving home about midnite it began to bunny hop up a steep hill on the edinburgh city pass so pulled into service station and waited 2 hours for the RAC.......kind man drove it home for me...i drove his van :)........i needed new coils..........about £600 and only cos I know the mechanic..........so alls well til today.....and guess what........light came on....loss of power..................watch this space

Hi all, ive got a Peugeot 307 hdi on a 55 reg, for afew days the engine management light has been on, and dosnt seem to being going off! also along side with this the "dipolution sensor faulty" light has come on as a error on the screen. the engine light only came on after my fault, by filling my car with petrol £10 worth, but i had the tank emptied, and i refilled the tank with diesel, since then the engine light has been on. today (17-03-2010) the car started to lose power in lower revs, and it seemed like as if it was a small misfire. i used the redex and used half of bottle in a half tank of diesel, and went for a 25miles drive. After the drive the car has gone alot better, it has all the power back like before.

the question i have is,
1 - how can i have the engine management light switched off
2 - also the dipolution sensor faulty light is still on, and the car drive 100% like new with out any fault, how could i turn this light off aswel.

had this problem many times, it seems to be very intermitant..! had anti pollution fault and ABS fault so far, had the car for 3months now and the problem seems to have gone since i took it into the pug garage, they did a diagnostics test and reset the lights, but apparently it can either be the sensors being dirty causing the computers not to read properly or the fluid in all pug cats gets to low causing problems in that category !
but it has been 3weeks now and i havnt had any of these lights come on, i use all sorts of petrol stations as i travel alot and no diesel has affected the way it drives..

same problem as all, i am completley fed up with peugeot dealership sherking responsibilities they haven't got any idea what this fault is, and in the meantime all us owners are not only paying out for this problem but also regular mot's and services with them which should of been picked up at time of use.

Going back in to the garage yet again with the same fault, which will resolve in me paying out again!!!!!! not impressed will keep you posted. :-(

My 307 2.0l 54 plate has had the same problems with 'anti pollution' and 'catalytic converter fault' on display as everyone else. I was only having problems when i started my engine, after approx 1 minute the car would judder and sometimes cut out completely. On one occasion i drove off without warming the engine properly and had problems driving, loss of power in all gears and the computer display beeping every two minutes. However, if i leave the engine to warm up the car seems to right itself and the warning light on the computer display has gone out. Since doing this i have not had the problem happen again. I did take it to my trusty local garage, the fault came up as 'coil pack' although he couldn't be certain. Feel reluctant to shell out as the problem seems to have gone(and am taking advice on quality fuel as i usually top up at supermarket) although concerned about engine cutting out on motorway and having a bigger problem if left unresolved as some of you. Thanks for your advice.

I have a Peugeot 307 XSi (2 litre 16 Valve petrol model), 2002 plate with around 50,000 miles.

On the way home from work, I had the message pop up saying "catalytic converter fault" along with the yellow engine light. Car ran fine however, not limping or anything. After leaving the car sit for a few hours, I tried it again and this time the screen with the radio information on started going crazy, repeatedly flashing "catalytic converter fault" then "antipollution fault" and then displaying the radio data. I got it booked into the garage for tomorrow morning (it has developed an ABS fault in the last few weeks too (second ABS fault in a year))

Just finished reading this thread, went down my local BP station and stuck £30 worth of BP Ultimate in, turned the key on the forecourt and BANG - the warning cleared instantly!

Fingers crossed it will stay gone.

After reading this thread, I remembered that the last time I had filled up had been at some dodgy looking petrol station. The tank had run down into the red by the time the warning came on.

On another note, my car before this was a 1998 Peugeot 106 GTi. That car was bad ass when I brought it, really the sweetest car I have ever driven.

After a few months of ownership, it developed an "erratic idle" - lumpy tick over, cutting out at traffic lights. It eventually failed the MOT on emmisions and I got rid of it.

Guess where I filled that car up every week? Yep, the same dodgy looking garage who caused my 307 warning light to come on.

Definitely sticking to BP brand fuel now, and will be advising others to do so.

hey i had exact same problem, took it garages and they were around 500 pound fixing it, i was shocked because i bought the car new, 1 of my friend told me that the car's air filter must have been dirty i looked and he was right so i changed the air filter and went to garage to reset the light cost altogether 40pound, 10pound filter and diagnostic light reset. The car is now fine!!

I added an engine cleaner and booster via the air intake on my 53 plate 307XSI and although there was no problem starting or with engine revs or tickover the antipollution warning light came on and stayed on for a while - being very concerned initially i came here and followed one set of instructions which was to turn the ignition on to one below actually starting it so that all the ignition lights were on including the ECU light, left it for 10 seconds and then started the car - hey presto APL out! although i do agree with never running any car on supermarket fuel, they are generally cheaper as they are 'watered down' and although i occasionally put premium 97/99 grade petrol in, i tend to stick by Shell/Esso normal 95 grade mostly. Avoid Supermarket fuel at all costs! and evidently, Total fuels although Peugeot recommend it - i can see why now!

52 plate 1.6 petrol. Just had this after car came back from minor body shop work. car was not in use for about three weeks though. Have used it this week for short journeys,trying to keep revs high, but today light went out of it's own accord - result....... hope it doesn't come back!

Iv just read loads of your comments as i had the same problem, iv just bought an 02 307 auto and it was nearly out of petrol when i bought it so limped to the nearest petrol station which was a "total" garage!! Went out in it today and anti pollution fault light came on, topped up £20 at a different garage and light seems to have gone off now (fingers crossed). Never again will i use a total garage as this same problem happened to 3 other people i know after visiting other total garages. I hope this is the end of the problem but will be paying the extra for "good" petrol in future and not letting it run too low.

THE ANTI POLLUTION LIGHT CAME ON FOR ME 1 WEEK AFTER IT WENT IN FOR ABS RECall took it in and someone else had same issue ,they did what ever again last month and on my partners car vw hers.
i found turn off ignitiuon remove key pump brake till until it cant go down anymore move foot off break then start ignition that worked for my car and partners good luck

I have a Peugeot 807 (04). The engine management light followed by Antipollution warning used to come on (August 09 one day after I bought it!). The filter and an allied sensor was changed. Not sure of the proper title for the sensor but my garage made an enquiry regarding the filter to a local Peugeot outlet and was told that they always change this sensor as well. Anyway, to the point. I have found that around town the warnings do not appear BUT if I travel on a motorway at a constant speed (60/70 plus) after 6 to 8 miles the engine management light comes on with the APW. This ALWAYS happens, every time I am on the motorway. After a few days the warning light goes out. Travelling back from Dartmouth in the new year it went into 'Limp Mode' just outside Evesham. I used to worry but now it's just very annoying as it does sort itself out but it would be nice to know what the problem is and what I can do to solve it. Any ideas?

I have a 2002 1.4l 5 door 307. I have had the APF come on a number of times and it eventually seems to go away again. Peugoet charged me whole heap of money the first time it happened and not entirely sure what they did. However, took it to the garage this morning (for something else) and mentioned that the APF warning has been coming on. Sorry if this is common knowledge but I didn't realise that apparently, a small amount of some 'special' fluid gets squirted into the tank everytime you put the nozzle of the fuel hose in to fill up, which reduces pollution and improves performance. However, if you fill up little and often this gets used up a lot more quickly and causes it to run low so it detects mix is wrong ie. more pollutant. They therefore recommended fewer but larger fuel stops. They weren't sure what happens if you leave it, they suspect that it affect the catalytic system but couldn't be sure. In the past the fault has gone of its own accord so I'm hoping this happens again. Garage said it could cost upto £300 to get this rectified!!
Personally my feeling is that it's a very sensitive sensor and just like everything else with the peugeot, it always needs attention. Saying that have done 100K miles in 4 years and only just starting to collapse.
Hope this sheds some light somehow.

I had my battery change on my Peugeot 307, after a week and a half of not using it. It was done at my local garage, after which my anti-pollution fault light came on..they wasn't sure what the problem was. They tried to re-set the computer, but no such luck. I took it to Peugeot dealer and it turned out to be a loose connection from where they change the battery, and they didn't charge me a penny for doing it. I was very happy.

The APF is caused by highly sensitive sensors with fine tolerances. They measure the quality of the air. When they go out of limits they signal the fault and the software kicks in usually reducing the rpm to reduce the exhaust emissions and hence ensure air quality. The reason that air quality is important is to protect the cat converter. So all good and worthy. But, the sensor goes out of limits easily as it is sensitive. Once the software has kicked in it does not reset for ages. There does not seem to be a workaround. Premium fuel helps but does not eliminate the problem. Peugeot needs to redesign the system! But they won't as their service centres make a lot of money fixing the fault. So only solution is to sell your Pug, search for anti-pollution fault on the net and buy any car that does not come up with it as an issue (i.e. no french cars). Peugeot needs to step up and do a recall here.

Have had similar problems with antipollution fault and engine light. Has happened a few times and gone off by itself, today following long drive on motorway I changed gears suddenly and light came on and fault message, car seemed to loose power and I could not go faster than 68 mph even with foot full on accelerator.

Also noticed that when I got into car air conditioning would not work correctly. Had been fine that morning but now spewing out only hot air despite air con level at 14. Car did not seem to be overheating and temp gauge ok. Has anyone noticed this problem in association with the antipollution message.

Have only had the car 4 months and noticed since I have had it that after turning off engine sometimes the ?fan still goes on for some considerable time, this is very noisy and noticeable. Is this normnal??? does anyone know

My car had the engine management and anti pollution fault lights on and was also losing power, the garage said that a pipe to the turbo had become disconected. It took 20 minutes in garage and solved the problem. Not saying that this is always the case or that repair so easy but check it out

I too have a 307 2.0 XSI. My Anti Pollution Fault and engine management light has been on for about 2 years now. I got told by a mechanic that it was a special filter and oil that it required. I have 2004 307 2.0 XSI HDI 136bhp. Started loosing a bit of power a couple of weeks ago and one day failed to start. Did eventually start after leaving it for 30 mins or so. Seemed to do this every now and then over last few weeks. Couple of days ago engine management light came on along with anti pollution fault. It would sometimes clear itslef, but keeps comming back. Filled up with Shell V power diesel and took car out for 60 mile drive. No problems or faults during the drive. unfortunately today after car been stood for 24 hours the same faults have returned. Car would not start and enginge managemnt light came on along with anti pollution fault. Again left it for 30 mins or so and car started and ran fine although faults stayed on. No idea what to do now, really don't want to take it to main dealer after hearing all the stories about there trial and error fixing policy at my expense.

Hi i have peugeot 307 1.6 engine diesel and i drove up 2 coventry and on the way there the anti pollution light came up on the dashboard also the speed was getting reduced from 70mph to 60mph etc untill it stopped. I have serviced the car top to bottom and after 2 weeks the problem has come up agian. Also i have cleaned the diesel tank and brand new filter. I dont understand what the problem is its the 3rd time in 3 years , Could you please shout some answers out please .

I have some problem with my 308 after I started the engine ,saw anti pollution fault and engine fan started to work when engine was totally cold. Turned off engine and engine fan still works. The warning signal goes on and I seat at car and made 40 km, turned off engine and fan stopped. Day later I had same problem, came at mechanic turned off and on engine and problem disappear. Mechanic sat at car, made a test drive and told me that could be a bed fuel. Went to OMV gas station and fill the tank with Eurosuper 100. Anyway I will visit authorized Peugeot center in Split Croatia to make full diagnostic of electronics.

I have just bought a Peugeot 307 on an 03 plate, and yes after only a few miles, the antipollution fault came up, i buy petrol from Morrisons (have done for years with no trouble), my car has now been in the garage for a week and had the sensors changed with no luck. i'm told the petrol would make no difference and now due to go on the computer to check the fault and the electrics (light flickering on and off). I've had this car now for just less than two weeks but the garage has had it for 3/4 of this time.

I asked my garage if the fuel could cause this and was laughed at, always get the car checked by a garage

I'm still no nearer to finding the fault, but luckly for me is that the company i bought the car from are paying the bill

Hi my peugeot 307 it has anti pollotion fault to it what i done is that took it to the garage and thay said to me that service it and i did but it still came up so then i took it back to the garage then they said to me that check the fuse box and i did .Then i changed all of the fuse box i and a new one and it went away.

Another SOLUTION! I had the problem with my Peugeot 206 after car washing, I started the engine, but it stalls to 600 RPM when I tryed to drive, and ANTIPOLLUTION FAULT showed on display. This is the second time I had this problem ONLY after washing car, so, I have removed air intake from filter box (a big black box near accu), the filter cap and air filter, and waited for about 10 minutes. I turned on engine, the power goes back with some interruptions, but I manage to drive home and leave it for 1 hour. The problem has dissapeared, so I put back intake and filter cap, everything was OK. I use unleaded fuel at ECO, Lukoil, ELP stations (I am in Serbia) and everything is OK except when I wash car, so I will have to find out where is the problem. In most cases the problem is that the antipolution filter is filled , the euro 4 hdi engines have a particle filter wich doesn't alow some of the exaust gas components to pass trough and also a sensor that verifies the quality of the exaust air when the car detects if the exaust gas complies with the pollution standards if it doesn't you will get this error and the result is that the engine won't go over 3k rpm(to reduce emissions- god damn ecologist engineers) and you will feel a power loss, now there are many things that may cause the sensor to go off: low quality diesel carburants , particle filter is stuck or it doesn't have anymore of the substance it uses to clean the exaust gas(cerine or eloys). So what should fix the problem:
1. Make sure you use good diesel carburant for your car don't use anything lower than euro4 diesel don't buy from small noname or old gas stations.
2. The filter can clean itself and the fap "regenerate".
What you need to do is take the car on the highway and go at a constant speed 100-110 km/h for about 15 -20 mins then gradually increase the speed. The residues from the particle filter should be removed and the antipollution fault error should dissapear.

Hi I got an 307 hdi 55 reg, same as everyone elses story the polution like came on 6 months back but the car drove fine so I thought it will go off itself, I now have another problem the car does not rev any more than 3000 revs and cuts out, totally powerless, the rev counter starts playing up and down , what now? any good suggestions?

I had the same problem this week. I have a Peugeot 307 xsi 1.4 (2003 plate).
Last week I noticed the antip pollution light came on and then a constant engine management light. After a few hours both lights went off and I assumed it had corrected itself. On looking at some advice from other forums, I filled up with the premium petrol from BP as a preventative measure.
Yesterday the lights both came on again and there was also a slight smell of burning rubber when the blowers were on in the car.
I took the car to the garage immediately for a diagnostic. There was a problem with the sensor on the catalytic convertor. Including the diagnostic and replacement of the sensor, the cost was - £168.08
The problem has gone which I am relieved about. The mechanic advised that if it had been left any longer the catalytic convertor would have blown, leaving a hugely expensive replacement bill.
My lights had some on and goen off several times in the past couple of weeks (sometimes for days on end), but there was a big problem waiting to happen so beware!

I put my car in reverse gear but it did not place correctly and i ended up revving the engine! as soon as that happened the anti pollution light has come on. Apart from that the car is working fine i have no problems whatsoever. I will fill up today using BP which i always do anyway and see what happens.

Just wanted to add my recent experience.
I'd let me fuel run the lowest it's ever been. Was 30 seconds from the Mobil and the anti pollution light came on. I filled up on the top shelf fuel (as I usually do) but when I restarted the car the anti pollution warning light was still on. I went directly to my mechanic who suggested it was probably related to the low fuel level upsetting the O2 sensors. The car seemed to be driving just fine. I made an appointment with the specialist guys to run the diagnostic test. In the meanwhile, I drove the car and filled it up with fuel once again. Still, the anti pollution light remained. Until yesterday when it just went out all on its own accord. Didn't need to be plugged in to clear the error. All seems to be fine. The moral of the story for me is to keep fuel levels topped up and of course use the good juice and not the cheap brands. Good luck!

Hi. Its nearly 2:30 in the morning so sorry if the answer is in one of the responses already given but Im very tired. I have a 307 Diesel and drove 100 miles to Cardiff today. After about 45 miles on the way back in the middle of the night, the Anti Pollution Failure thing happened. I have read this thread and it mentions about using a better petrol to help clear the problem. Whats a better diesel to try as I always use supermarket garages?

OK this is new twist 307 sw 136 hdi anti pollution light comes on car runs in safe mode then light goes out after a day or so and now it like miss fires and causes the car to jerk quite a lot at low revs will try the fuel thing but not hopeful will let you know

peugeot 307 2001, 1.6i rapier,i had a similar problem as most people on this thread, such as driving down a motorway (A1M) and suddenly see the engine management light flash on the dash and the center display says "anti-pollution fault" followed by "catalyst converter fault", then the car will not got past 65mph even with foot to floor. not very entertaining as i have had my licence for less then 3 months >:| All of this began after a cam belt change with full service at the 80,000 mile mark. nationwide autocenters beleived it to be the timing that was out, so i went back to the garage who said it could be the manifold :s. i went to a different nationwide who said it was not the manifold, but the coil.... they replaced at the cost of the warranty, still had problem after change, went to another nationwide who then changed the spark plugs for FREE, which is awesome. still had problem. then all of sudden, the fault just dissappeared and have had no problems since. inbetween all this i visited a few peugeot dealers and they had no idea on what was going on. after speaking to some mechanical guys they say the cam belt doesn't go as it was originally so the ecu picks it up as misfires and a reset is needed or wait till it learns... hopefully it wont come back and hope it helps some people out there...

I have tried everything to sort out the antipollution issue without success, so ended up taking the car into peugeot to run a diagnostic (£90). They said it turned out to be the spark plugs, which they were then going to charge me £80 to replace (you can buy them for £20!!) Needless to say I had someone else replace them, but surprise surprise.... the engine light and the antipollution fault are still there and the car still has issues running. I am now booked in to see another private mechanic this morning, which is lucky as I now have the STOP light coming on and my engine's overheating!!! My advice.....take your car to a trusted independant mechanic. The diagnostic was a waste of money and from what the mechanic is showing me, I now have conatminated oil (from water) which could mean several things, but several things Peugeot should have picked up on earlier!!! It's now going to cost me hugely. Not happy.

I am glad I have read this thread.. but that is cos my car is in the garage.. for *AIR POLLUTION FAULT* coming up on dash and completely stalling the engine for the 4th time in 6 months!
I have an '03 HDI (1.4) and diesel so cant put Shell Optimum in.
Saying that I filled up at petrol station diesel pump before my journey. 200mile round trip.. I got to the 170 mile mark and still 30 miles from home. DONT EVEN START ME ON RAC who left me on the motorway cos the fault is the same as twice before- they refused to recover me!
ANyways.. car is back in the same garage.. AGAIN!! God knows why this keeps happening.. but I think I will start avoiding supermarket fuels!
The fault only ever happens when on long runs.. usually its fine when just tottering around town.

Just had this fault today. "Anti Polution" warning light came on. No other problems and it ran as we as ever - just the fault light and warning.

£20 of BP ultimate and problem gone instantly!

Definitely worth trying before putting it on the computer!

Yes .... I fixed mine by getting an oil change with an additive to unstick the hydraulic lifters which were causing the fault lights. saved thousands on new lifters and new coil pack.

i had the same problem.my husband put petrol in my 307cc in a garage we have never used before then the anti polution fault came up. the next morning i filled up at shell garage with v plus which i normaly use. drove car round for a bit and found management light went of.Can't belive that, but relived.

I have a 307 hdi, and had the anti pollution alarm a few times when I first bought the car. When the fault appeared the car would go into safe mode which meant that the car would only do a max of 3000 revs, it never broke down on me though. if you switch the engine off the car would go back to driving as normal but with the engine management light still on the dash, eventually it would clear without the need to be reset by peugeot. I read on a forum, similar to as stated above about a fuel additive being squirted into the fuel each time you fill up, apparently the only thing that senses the fill up is the removal of the fuel filler cap which has some contacts which make and break a circuit. Since reading that each time I fill up I twist the cap backwards and forwards to make sure that the contacts aren't dirty, and fingers crossed haven't had the problem for over a year now.

Incredible, I read all the info on this forum as I got the same error as is written above ('Antipollution Fault') and managed to fix the problem.

The other night I was going down a hill and i engaged gear 5 instead of 3 by mistake whilst going quite slow. Cue the computer coming up with the error and flashing it onto the OSD. Anyway, after searching here I asked a semi mechanic mate of mine and we disconnected the battery and left for 2hrs then put the ignition on and left for 30secs before starting the power. THIS DID NOTHING.
So fearing the worst and being ready to throw 300-500pounds at it as suggested by some here I went to Shell. I put 20litres of Optimax premium unleaded in the tank and then waited for a while before starting the engine.
Anyway, lo and behold the problem went away.
I went back onto the motorway and did 15miles at a decent speed to keep the engine warm and then again this morning did 25motorway miles.

The problem appears fixed.....

I must add that I normally use supermarket fuels or total fuels, I rarely use BP or Shell, but after this occurance then I think I will be using shell normal unleaded and then once a month banging in optimax!

BTW to clear the ECC then you need to go to an approved mechanic or a main dealer and ask them to plug the fault computer in to clear the errors- removing the battery or messing with the settings wont clear it..

Hi i just bough a 307sw 136hdi, I had the anti-pollution light come on so i called the main dealer and they said give it a good run this seemed to cure the problem.
After more searching i find that the car is fitted with a FAP filter system. For us who have limited knowledge of the system i have found out this.
You remove your filler cap,this sends a signal after at least 9 litres of fuel are added to an injector which injects an additive into the fuel which then helps burn the carbon from the fap filter and keep the sensors clean. If the ecu takes readings from dirty sensors this will cause most of these problems, This is what i am led to beleave.The injected additive is stored in a tank under the car and should last for about 70,000 miles. When it runs low the computer screen will tell you along with the warning lights.
The tank is main dealer fill because the ecu needs to be reset as well.
Hope some of this knowledge is of use,i found it out on a site called honest john .co.uk be it alot more techinical.

Just got back from the garage, They did a diagnostic test but nothing showed up on the computer so he says my car is fine. Im gonna do a lumbda test though to check the exhaust, cat, air filter etc

AA man has come and gone! LOL He was very good as the AA guys always are :O) He said it was a fault in the cat converter, probably a sensor. He advise me to not drive it [only to the garage]. It will cost me but then why do we think that just coz it's a car that we should get it for free? Good point that cars shouldn't go wrong so quick and some makes are better than others. Anyway, I'll let you know what the garage says and the cost, by the way, i always go to nationwide autcentre it's AA approved and they have never ever ripped me off plus you get 10% off with AA and tescos and no I don't work for AA, Tescos or Nationwide Autocentres :O)

Ive just had my Engine warning light come on and a beep 'Anti- pollution fault' I'm getting the AA guy out to have a look and perhaps shed some more light on the situation. I was luckily by a Peugeot garage when it happened, the guy in Peugeot said that it means there's a serious fault with the engine and if I drive it further I will damage the engine. i had to drive it home to get home but on the way home, the warning light went out. The guy at Peugeot said the light does go out but the fault is still there. I will let you all know what the AA guy says. My Dad's gonna buy a manual tomorrow too so that we can have a read and understand more about the car. It's an 04 reg, 44,000 on the clock. Nice looking car, shame about the engine eh? I will update you all...

Cheapest solution would be to fill up with BP or Shell petrol and take the car for a good drive before paying a garage to look at it. I've got an 04 reg 307 xsi and
whilst driving to the tram stop y'day morning the 'anti-pollution fault' started flashing and the engine management icon came on and the car immediately started losing acceleration. Luckily i managed to pull off at a bus stop at the side of the road. Switched the car off and started it again,the fault still flashed on the dash but i was able to accelerate. After reading the comments
on this site i filled up at BP last nite and gave the car a good revving before taking it for a drive. Loads of smoke came out of the exhaust but the anti-pollution fault and engine management icon went off. Hopefully that was the last i've seen of it cos i dont want the car to cut off while on the motorway and from what i've read if there is a genuine fault with the sensors etc.this can be really costly. FYI- i filled up at a Total petrol station before the fault started. I think a big factor of this problem is that the car is parked most of the time and hardly ever goes on the motorway. i had the' anti polution fault' on my 04 307 hdi. took it to the garage and had the EGR (exsaust gas recirculation) valve changed£300. then after a few hundred mile it came back on. had the ecu unit re programed£600. then all ok for 10,000 miles. it just came back on!! i have not had any power problems or cutting out (yet) but do use super market fuel.

I have had the same problem. I was told to fill 2-3 ltr carburettor fluid in the tank (was 1/4 full) - I Tried with 2 ltr, and the next morning the message was gone. Now, after 3 month, the message has still not been displayed in my 307 2,0.

I just my 307 to a local garage and they ran the fault diagnostics tool on the car. No fault was found even though the "Anti Pollution Fault" error was displaying on the onboard dash display.

They reset the error code, drove the 307 for 10 miles and ran the diagnostics tool again. No fault was found. I suggest you ask a garage to reset the "Anti Pollution Fault" error if you are experiencing no issues with the performance of the 307. I encountered no performance issues, my 307 drove without a problem but I was forced into getting the "Anti Pollution Fault" error looked at.

I was also told that the "Anti Pollution Fault" error will appear if there is a drop in the voltage in the error reporting. Apparently, a milli-volt drop can result in error messages appearing on the onboard dash display.

My wife has a 2004 307 1.4 petrol. The engine management system light came on yesterday. Having read the suggestion to put premium fuel in it, I filled it with Shell V-Power - hey presto the problem was solved. She had been running it on a supermarket fuel previously.

have only just bought my peugeot 307xsi and had no anti pollution light when purchased, after filling it up at a total petrol station the anti-pollution light and engine light came on the next day. then dissapeared for 1 day then back again, am very worried of your stories of cutting out not had that as yet? can anyone tell me if car completley stops whilst you are driving 70mph on motorways????

my 307 had an anti pollution fault come up as well.my car konked out and road side service gave it a few good revs, then drove it around the corner and the error message luckily corrected itself. i rang peugeot and they said it would most likely be a computer glitch but if it was to happen again i would have to take it in. so far so good, looks like it was just a glitch.

I have some problem with my 307 after I had £20 petrol from a "supermarket related filling station". The warning signal goes on and on.

I was very upset. Searched the web. One suggested that use expensive petrol solved this problem.

Next morning I Added £20 petrol from a non-super market related station. The problem solved at once. At once, Yes.

I had the 'anti pollution fault' nightmare, it didn't affect the running of my 307 HDI so I didn't bring it to the garage until it was due a service 3 months later. When they looked at the error codes in the ECU they noted that the accelerator peddal position sensor had not been reading correctly, but when they cleared the codes and reset the system, it went away and has been fine since, 3 months on.

Hi, I had this fault last month. Been stood and wouldn't start. When it eventually started lots of smoke came from exhaust, the "anti pollution fault" and engine light on. Didn't have a clue what to do. Then read that it's to do with emissions, so presumed the sensor for emissions had picked up all the smoke - therefore "anti pollution". Also read that to clean out system to drive car, did this, parked it up for the afternoon, went back after few hours, started it - no "anti pollution fault" and no yellow engine light and it has been fine ever since!!

I had this same problem when i first bought my 307, still under warrenty. The dealer didnt have a clue ,first of all they changed the fuel pump then 2 weeks later they changed the fuel pump regulator then eventually they found a sensor which was sat in well full of water this was 18 months ago no problems since. Expensive job if your paying for it. Dont leave it though as my car continually cut out in particular when in second gear.
