filled up tank i can hear pump but no water coming out

same thing happend with my 2000 reg focus. Could hear the pump going and no water coming out. Ended up getting haynes manual to see how to take water tank out. Took it out and there was a tar like sludge in the water spray tank. Rinsed it out with hot/near boiling soapy water to flush as much of the gunk out. The tar like substance had blocked the filter so no water was actually getting to the pump. I put the water tank back in and it worked a treat. It's not as complicated as it seems to remove the wheel arch lining and take the tank out. I can email you scans from the haynes manual for the pages you need if you like?

If it's cold, it takes a while for the jets to warm up and clear. If the jets are blocked... try sticking a needle or paperclip down the nozzle.

could be blocked jets, i think there is a filter in washer bottle,it forms part of grommet where pump pushes into bottle,this could be blocked,especially if someone has used detergent in bottle-it turns to like jelly and blocks filter.
