how can i fix my 1.7 diesel astra van r reg?

it smokes when it starts and then revs right up and wont turn off. i have to stall it befor it blows up. oil is also getting in to the water bottle and sometimes it over heats. what is going on. it does not do this all the time. i have done all the basics but i aint got a clue.

Oil is also getting into the cylinders via the air intake system or more likely the head gasket if you also have oil in the water. A diesel engine will run on engine oil with out the aid of diesel, the faster it revs the more oil it will pull in till something goes bang so you have to find the source of the oil ingress.
