McCulloch Cabrio 246 Petrol Strimmer - Wont run at speed?

My McCulloch Petrol Strimmer will start reasonably easily but will not run at speed. If you try to rev it it seems do die. I have to really coax it along by adjusting the choke across its range. Cleaning the plug seems to help a little. I cant believe it should be so difficult to get it going. I'm using unleaded petrol and McCulloch two stroke oil mixed to 50:1 Any suggestions?

Its almost certainly blocked jets. Take off the cover to the carb and then carefully see how many turns each of the two jet adjustments ( not the idle adjustment) take to screw in as far as possible. This is to store current settings. Then take out each jet screw and clean the whole thing with carb cleaner spray. Reassemble by screwing in each jet as far as it will go then unscrewing as per your calibration. It should now work fine but if not, use set up instructions that you can find on many forums.

if you are not a service agent then return to your nearest outlet,or you can try reseting the slow and fast idle mixture screw's as follows screw in both screw's gently untill they reach there seats then back off both screw jet's 3/4 of a turn if mixture is correct your done happy brushcutting

i have the same problem but i discovered the cylinder barrel is loose on the crankcase. i discovered this when i noticed the carburretor was slack but it was the barrel. still trying to find out if there is a gasket between barrel and crankcase which may have gone awol or if i should just tighten the two 4.5mm allen cap screws bolting the two items together
