1997 ford escort 1300.cc what is the gap for adjusting tappits ? what order do you do it in?

Hi Rae, the gaps are inlet 0.2mm exhaust 0.5mm from the thermostat end they are numbered
1 ex
2 in
3 ex
4 in
5 in
6 ex
7 in
8 ex
the way I adjust them is to count 9 when valve 1 is fully open adjust valve 8, 2 open adj 7 and so on the engine must be cold, but these engines are always noisy on the tappets
