Lexmark X4200 w/Fax. My printer/scanner/copier does not connect directly to computer. Plugs into back of printer and then into outlet on surge protector. I run software, but I get message that print spooler not in service and printer cannot be located. I just put new ink cartridges in. I am not so concerned about the faxing, mostly used for printing, copying and scanning. Not sure what port I would use when asked.

Try downloading the latest driver for your operating system from Lexmark's website.
Get rid of all the existing Lexmark software and install the latest software. If you are connecting through an ethernet port (not clear from your message) you may have to add a TCP port on your PC to support the printer.
