gilera dna 50, problems indeed?

bought a 2nd hand one a few weeks ago , finally got it started due to incorrect fuel set up , but it rattles and pops like it got 12 marbles inside

Ive changed the rollers but the sound seems to be coming from the other side of the engine

anyone know what this could be , loose con rod?, piston ring gone ?

and when i tried to start it something went clonk inside ?

so ive started strippping it down , might as well do a complete overhaul on it before i get out on the road .
the con rod seems fine but ive not opened he engine casing yet

all i can see that is used for gaskets between the 2 halfs of the engine is that blue liquid stuff , is that right or should i have proper gaskets on

yep, cracked it open today

one of the crankshaft main bearings has lost a few bearings , so im gonna replace them,

Ive ordered a new standard piston kits and new gaskets for the cylinder head ,

hopefully the 2 hours of rebuilding will be worth it

Unlikely that the crankcase casings would only use gasket cement instead of a proper gasket. Check with a Gilera dealer to see if a standard gasket set contains a gasket for this face. You can buy a pattern set from other dealers much cheaper like motobrio.com (01450 363636).

The sound you mention could be any moving part that uses bearings, but the fact that the fuel was compromised makes me think it is either the main bearings or big end (and the small end too probably). If you are going to overhaul the bike get all the bearings done while the engine is down. The crankshaft can be exchanged at a reduced cost - again contact motobrio as they deal with this stuff all the time.
