Squealing disc brakes are usually due to a build up of dust on the pads and caliper or lack of copper grease on the back of the pads, together with the disc surface becoming glazed....MX5's are notorious for having poor handbrakes and I wonder if your mechanic has adjusted them correctly? The adjuster is behind a 14mm bolt on the back of the caliper - its turned with a 5mm allen key. Maybe they are a little tight?
