On a 40° wash and others; after initial filling the timer stops and we have to click it on two clicks to get it to work then it does full wash. After reading other faults on your site i appreciate the timer is most probably not at fault but the sequence of events.. how could I prove or disapprove the timer/heater/thermostat if that is the sequence of events?

when the washer has filled it swiches on the heater, if the heater is not working it will not move on and this or a broken wire to it is the most likely cause of your problem. there are other things that will cause this type of fault but rarely the timer, if you have a multimeter you could check that the element is not open curciut but if this is beyond your capabilities I would sugest a repairer. PULL THE PLUG BEFORE DOING ANYTHING
