I just took apart a Hoover Model U8172-900 Savvy Bagged / Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner. I am not sure this is the easiest way but it would work.
1. Remove the Brush Roller assembly.
2. Remove the top of "Base unit" to gain access to motor.
3. Replace belt
4. Reassemble.
Don't force the plastic parts as they will break.
1. There are screws on the bottom that secure a plastic plate that secures "hold" in the roller brush (I believe 7 of them). If you remove these the roller will come out.
1B. remove the roller assembly. Clean off any rope, string or hair that may be present on the roller.
2. There are multiple screws that hold on the top.
Remove the screws on the bottom (I believe there are 3 within the roller brush area attached to a plastic piece and 2 other screws.
2A. Remove the screws on top (1 on each side near the upright section, and the HIDDEN ONE under the round Hoover lable near the light).
2B. Remove the top. There are two tabs that interlock on the light.
3. Now you access to the brush motor.
4. replace the belt, reassemble the top and then reassemble the brush roller.
I would be very interested in the resistors on the PCB that has the "clean" and "dirty" leds on it. It's near the brush motor.
There is a schematic of said Hoover at http://www.vacshopusa.com/hoover_savvy.htm
I need to know the R1 and R2 resistor values or the color bands (in order from one end). If you know the resistor values or their color codes please let me know at JQPUBLIC62@Hotmail.com.
