How can I fix my Xerox XRX-24S shredder?

My Xerox XRX-24S shredder won't stop shredding once it is plugged in. How can I make it turn off? I have checked near the sensor & can not find anything lodged there.

Sunlight is in fact the answer to your question. Mine started on its own every afternoon the sun was shining. I called Xerox and they verified that sunlight indeed starts the motor unattended. Unbelievable.

Look to see whether the shredder is in direct sunlight. This can cause it to run when no paper has been inserted.

In our office, we found our XRX-24S would spontaneously start at a given time of day, and eventually we realized the trigger was sunlight reflected onto the shredder.

Try clicking the switch slowly from forward then to reverse, then back to forward and then ending on Auto. When in Auto position it should stop running. The power light remains on.
